What if... Classic to Retail transfers became a thing?

Ok now hear me out before you guys go on a rampage. With retail’s new level cap being 60, it got me thinking… But before I posted this I searched the forums for a post about the topic and found one from 2019. People’s main concern was the items being transferred from classic to retail.

Now what if… Instead of a complete transfer, we only got a copy of our character with a standard set provided for newly transferred characters.

What would be the point? Well I for one want to level this druid here on classic and get the TBC experience as well when it comes out. But I also want to eventually play retail for the first time. I think it would be nice to be able to copy my toon to retail instead of having to start from level 1 again. People’s main concern with this was the classic/tbc gear being transferred to retail, but what if you had to accept that with the transfer you would get sent back to level 50 and get a standard starter set. Meanwhile you keep your original copy in classic.

Thoughts?

You don’t need to transfer to play retail. I guarantee you’ll get a new experience from level 1.

Well maybe now that the level cap is 60. I’m sure there will be plenty of people leveling alts. But Idk anything about retail. I worry I’ll see a lot of dead zones leveling up.

Not a worry, like you said there will be a lot of players leveling. You can queue to level through dungeons and battlegrounds from anywhere in the world.

Even if you don’t see a player to level with in the world, many of the zones that you’ve never played through introduce a more engaging solo playthrough than classic.

I personally really enjoy questing through cataclysm and pandaland zones on my own. If you were to start at level 50, you’d miss all of this.

I see… well I’ll give it a shot then, I did like to see all the changes there are on the starter zones like Elwynn Forest and etc. I dont mind giving it a go from level 1. But I’ll also get this druid to 60 here on classic and It would be nice to bring her over someday as well. =)

Hahaha, while I see your point, you would have wasted a month of time to do what you can do in a couple days on retail. Literally took me a month to get my priest to 60. I’m pretty sure i was 44 on my retail priest within a day.

wow from 1-44 in one day? did you buy the boost thing?

I’m definitely playing retail… but I really want to experience TBC with everybody too! <3

Waste? While I agree easier to level in retail by far. If it was your first time playing WoW (and I know enough that Classic is their first experience) then it would be a different experience.

All that said I think it is too much of a change. Retail WoW and Classic WoW are different games. Yes, the classes are there and other things, but they aren’t the same classes. A druid in retail is night and day from a Classic druid. Same for every other class.

Leveling in retail has been a joke for a few expansions now. And Blizzard even sped it up with various items and incentives.

On retail? Yep. I no-lifed it, but it wasn’t challenging. It helped that the exp boost had been up.

It nearly took a full day of time to get my classic character to 10.

Then how would transferring it over be worth it? If it’s a totally different experience, shouldn’t you level it up as the game designed it’s current form of character?

I’m well aware they’re different. I’ve played a range of characters on both retail and classic.

Sidenote, recent paladin changes have interesting reflections of classic ones.

That’s what I’m saying. I think transferring Classic characters to retail would be silly. Keep the legacy and retail servers separate. It is one thing to progress from Classic to Classic BC to Classic Wrath. It’s another to go from Classic to BfA/Shadowlands.

Alright guys… you’ve convinced me!! I’m doing both! Going warlock on retail and druid on classic. Even though warlocks were really op in TBC from what I hear… hmm

Oh, no doubt. I’m all for new content in classic by means of a rereleased TBC, though I’m in no hurry to go back to the eternal grind for gold.

It’ll be an experience! Don’t get discouraged by the lack of instant gratification in classic. It’s still a fun time. Especially if you bring friends along for the ride~

I like the fact gold means something in Vanilla and BC. I remember as gold started to inflate in WoD and it was one of the turnoffs to me. I guess that’s a “to each their own” kinda thing.

It definitely has more value. I’d spent hours grinding essences, to earn like 50 gold. It’s bizarre earning nearly that on a single quest turn in for retail.

wait what, retail they are back to level 60? So what’s the leveling process like, is it the same amount of xp as classic?

Here’s the thing, you know that they’re essentially two different games and should remain that way.

You’re not “restarting from level 1” in Retail, when you haven’t played the Retail experience. The Classic Experience doesn’t equate to the Retail experience. Classic leveling should remain in Classic and not be copied nor transferred over into Retail and vice versa.

It’s beyond simply items. The way Classes function in Classic and Retail are two different things, two different experiences and two different Games.

Classic Druid is not the same as Retail Druid.

With things like CRZ to give the illusion that leveling zones are populated?

Besides, Retail has level boosting, anyway, for those who really don’t want to level from 1. That aside, she’s not a Retail Druid, but a Classic one. Her abilities won’t be the same upon transitioning away from Classic and into Retail. They’re not the same thing.

Retail can go diaf for all i care, i cannot stand crz and sharding.
