I have been watching Game of Thrones and there are important characters who I believe would have a lot of plot armor protecting them or otherwise have more story to tell end up dying and making the story more interesting. If there is one thing I learned from that show is that you can never really expect what is going to happen next in the game of thrones.
So what if this happens :
King Anduin was assassinated and died without an heir causing the Alliance to fall into a succession crisis and multiple pretenders to the throne emerge trying to press their claim to the Stormwind throne.
Each faction of the alliance will have to pick a side as one of the pretenders, who is evil, captures and occupies Stormwind and in a effort to increase their legitimacy, decides to attack the Horde and pull them into this civil war.
The evil pretender uses propaganda to try to rally the various factions of the Alliance behind them by saying that they must unite under their leadership in order to stop the Horde from invading the Eastern Kingdoms! Some factions support the evil pretender claims about the horde invasion, while some factions tries to obtain the aid of the Horde to stop this civil war.
The main campaign for the Alliance will start with the civil war, while the Horde campaign will start when the evil pretender pulls the Horde into the civil war.
I think if this happened, it will solve the problem where the Horde is always evil, and someone from the Alliance can finally be the evil person who must be stopped and it can bring the game back to Azeroth.
I think the death of a well known and important character who you think should have a lot of plot armor protecting them can really make the story of the game very interesting.
I’m personally exhausted from being a veteran of all 4 wars. I’m ready to tackle the long laundry list of unfinished stories that are collecting dust.
I mean if the rumors are true, that’s basically what it looks like is going to happen with Turalyon, except Anduin is conveniently beyond reach in the Shadowlands instead of being dead. It sucks that Turalyon is the character they’ve decided to do it with though, I’d prefer if it were some newly invented character.
Personally not into the political intrigue thing though unless it’s executed extremely well. If it’s written badly or is mediocre it tends to make for schlocky, contrived, and forced feeling drama.
Pretty sure all the important Alliance folks would quickly huddle and crown Greymane as king. He would be crowned before the common folks heard the news about Anduin.
Killing him is extreme, but Turalyon is far more interesting. Hopefully he actually is in the maw with Sylvanas so we can get some juicy Stormwind drama.
