What if all content scaled to max level?

If done right, scaling works. ESO is scaled and I love it. I can take my brand new toon to any zone I want to start leveling. But blizz has proven they don’t know how to do scaling, the main point being that they also scale to your ITEM LEVEL. I mean THAT is how you primarily gain power in a scaled game, through your gear. If you scale to gear also you negate progression. Are the blizz devs really this clueless?

Would absolutely hate it, Already can’t stand what scaling they have added. Would make leveling pointless, Just start us at max level and forget about leveling process altogether , What would be the point to be just as strong at level 1 as you are at level 130.

Wow look i kill a cat with 3 shadow bolts at level 1, and kill the same cat at level 30 with 3 shadow bolts., then at 90 and then at 130. Was there any point in leveling?

Define “stronger” I guess. Being able to blast someone to the other side of a dungeon with a dragon shout made me feel stronger than when I could only swing a sword at them in skyrim.

I think the idea that the only way to feel stronger is to one-shot things is bad. We need to be stronger not a literal like deity. Even if a pit lord was from BC, a pit lord is still a pit lord. In lore they are a tier below the generals like KJ and Archimonde. Being able to one shot one with an stray arrow isn’t just “getting stronger”. Being able to one shot the strongest tiers of demons and elemental lords isn’t stronger, it’s basically titan-keeper levels of power when you scale it.

Also can we talk about “current” mobs, you can’t oneshot this random bee because it’s current content. How does that make you feel stronger? You can one shot a pit lord but a random honey bee puts up a fight because it’s “current”.

All of that is a symptom of absurd power inflation between expansions, and inside the current expansion.

In the case of WoW specifically, it’s totally fine to one shot raid bosses from years ago because the equipment they also drop is trivial. This is where there is a disconnect between game design and lore design. You have to choose one. I choose gsme design over lore for old content, and Lore in current Xpac.

Nah, I’m cool being a deity thanks.

I think itd be a serious step in the wrong direction. I want to feel stronger as i play not feel weaker or at best on par with everything i come across and fight.

They already scaled zones so you could finish the storylines… if you want to see the raid story lines, either YouTube them, or run them solo and enjoy it on your own time… essentially you are just asking for them to force you to have to find 10+ ppl who would want to come raid the Lich king with you.

However you are in luck, go do timewalking raids.

I like ESO overall minus scaling; all it does is make it difficult to choose where I want to start. I don’t understand how Veteran trials work in relation to world content from a scaling/gearing perspective.

I prefer too see myself progress from peon to hero. I shouldn’t be going toe to toe with Elswyer dragons at lvl 5 and an 810 is beside me.

In WoW, I enjoy that an ilvl 430 is godly and provides a greater sense of push for me to keep gearing. In, ESO it’s more mount farm, motif farm, and buying stuff for 60 homes.

I derive enjoyment from blazing through old content like a demigod. Just like in my old Final Fantasy days of gearing up to go back and destroy those old mobs just because. Call it well placed vengeance.

Honestly, this would be fine. But the issue is, I don’t believe Blizzard would ever do this. This would require them to basically make an entirely different game.

I mean, look at all the options they’ve removed over the last two expansions. They removed the toggle for old graphics and the 34 bit client. If they scaled to max level, they won’t waste time, energy, and resources to making a Legacy mode for old content-- it would be mandatory for everyone to play in 100% scaled content.

I don’t quite understand this comment. They wouldn’t be making a “legacy mode” per se. Legacy would just be how it is now, and toggling it off would just adjust all relevant numbers to max level. It wouldn’t be much work, especially since they have already developed the framework for scaling.

Actually, I think reverting everything back to prescaled WoW and have a scalled WoW be a toggle like I suggested (except scale all content to all levels, allowing expansion stuff to be done at lvl 1) would please everyone.

Point is, they aren’t likely to consider this when you look back at all the toggles they have removed so they don’t have to invest time, energy, money to keep creating them.

Otherwise they would have done this from the get go–Added the toggle when they introduced scaling.

We asked for scaling toggle when they announced world scaling.

I know exactly what you’re talking about.

As a new player on a little mage, not even having riding yet, I loved the excitement of exploring all these wonderful areas for high level toons, risking being seen by huge deadly monsters, and bringing back loot, particularly fish and ravasaur eggs, to auction.

The only thing I like about scaling is being able to skip zones you dislike and doing other zones you do like without feeling like you missed a lot of xp to level. Besides that, I hate the idea and it bothered me when I wasn’t able to feel like I was more powerful then certain mobs anymore.

Overall, I do not endorse scaling.

And that sums it up for me.

Any system that allows players to enjoy the old content would be magnificent. As it stands, most of the game has been lost due to the forced treadmill mindset.

If there was a way for a max level to put the whole world into “timewalking mode” where everything gets scaled back up, you would be able to find groups for all the old raids again.

It would breath life back into all the old content and could possibly resurrect the whole game.

No thanks. If i wanted all world scaling id play ESO.

I don’t like scaling at all.

I rarely ever feel like I’ve progressed. It feels like there is no point in leveling and just seems like a lazy design.

I spend the majority of my time on older content. If everything scared to max level that would end over 80% of my game time.

This would be a nightmare to balance and would spread people too thinly across all this “new” content. There’s a reason they don’t add new battlegrounds all the time.
