Since it seems like they want to hear our feedback on what we want to see (From interviews) here are my requests.
Everyone gets their own.
Please don’t do some bid war, lottery system, or “Who can click the fastest” type system like FFXIV. Please just let every player acquire their own housing through a quest or something.
Let us pick a location.
Personally, I’d like to set my house in Netherstorm. I’m sure everyone has a zone in mind where they’d like to call home. So, let us choose - and don’t limit it to new zones only.
Also, let me elaborate on this, because I think some people misunderstand. I want to zone into my housing instance and have the surrounding area look just like I was in Netherstorm. The sky is the Netherstorm skybox, there is purple rocky terrain, you can see an Eco-Dome and a Mana-forge off in the distance, etc. It’s not like I would hearth to my house and then be able to fly off into Tempest Keep or something. It would be a separate instance, but just LOOK like it could be in Netherstorm.
A yard.
I’m not sure how housing is getting planned out (If it’s instanced on a per-house basis, or if it’s going to be a neighborhood system, etc.) but I would enjoy it so much more if we were able to have a yard and see a phase of the open world before entering our home. With outdoor furnishings as well.
Instanced Neighborhoods.
So this is basically adding on to my last point, but in FFXIV they have neighborhoods inside instances. You can walk around each neighborhood and see all the homes. I would very much like to see a similar system so I can explore other homes. You could always have settings where you set your house to private if you don’t want random people stepping inside.
Show off accomplishments.
The teaser video already hinted at this, so it must already be on your mind, but let us show off our accomplishments via trophies and decor.
Fully customizable.
Let us actually customize the houses. If I want to move a chair 2 inches to the left to fit a desk, let me do it. Please don’t have predefined layouts or something like Garrisons.
Customizable House Exterior.
We should be able to change the structure of our house to be whatever theme we’d like. Some could look fancy and elegant, while others are silly and for fun.
Pattern and Profession stuff:
New Profession: One who’s sole purpose is to craft furnishings for the house. (Think Woodworking). But other professions should get some love too. Tailoring could make rugs, curtains, and beds, for example. There are lots of options for each profession to be able to contribute while still bringing in a new profession.
Expansion/Race Specific Furnishings: As stated earlier, I want my house located in Netherstorm. So I would appreciate being able to have Outlands themed furnishings available.
Old World Patterns: I would love an excuse to go out and farm new patterns for my professions. I’m a collector, so having furnishings drop (Either in recipe form, or as a full drop) would encourage me to go back out into the old world to search for these patterns.
BoE Furnishings: Not everyone has every profession unlocked and if you put some furnishings behind professions, they should be BoE so that we can sell them to people who don’t want to bother. It’s a new way to make gold and allows everyone a chance at the furnishings.
Profession Tables: Some might not agree with me on this one, but I think you should be able to craft or purchase crafting tables to put in your home. You can limit it so that we can’t access work orders if that’s a big deal, but I think it would be nice to be able to craft at home.
Various sized homes.
I would like it if we could earn bigger houses. Either by dropping gold, or doing an achievement, etc. Everyone should be able to afford the smallest house, but if you have the means, you should be able to upgrade your home.
Portal Room.
NOT city portals but our Hero’s Path portals. I’m not as attached to this idea, but I think it would be kinda neat to have a portal room for the portals we unlocked in M+. Again, not the city/zone portals found in the capital cities - just the personal portals we unlock. We can already use them from our spell book, so it’s not some crazy new feature. It’s just a cool looking room we could have in the house.
Longer Term plan: Guild Housing.
Pretty self-explanatory request, but once player housing has been implemented and tweaked, I think Guild Housing would be pretty cool to have too.
There are definitely more things I could think of, but I’m gonna leave it here for now. Maybe edit as I come up with more ideas. I’m super excited about player housing and wish it was coming sooner lol.
Well, I’m not going to argue on what they can or cannot do. I’m no expert coder. But I would like to think they can make it work. Maybe not as expansive as every single zone in the game, but at least the basic starting areas. Like a Silvermoon themed zone for example.
Editing to add this bit of information, since I think some people might understand what exactly I even mean by picking a location (Adding it to my OP, too):
Also, let me elaborate on this, because I think some people misunderstand. I want to zone into my housing instance and have the surrounding area look just like I was in Netherstorm. The sky is the Netherstorm skybox, there is purple rocky terrain, you can see an Eco-Dome and a Mana-forge off in the distance, etc. It’s not like I would hearth to my house and then be able to fly off into Tempest Keep or something. It would be a separate instance, but just LOOK like it could be in Netherstorm.
a perfectly balanced front gate that latches nicely. no need for quick swinging gates the crash and bang. Yes, my neighborhood is going to have sound ordinance.
We will prolly get pre-decorated houses. And when you get achievements items are systematically placed.
I doubt blizzard is going to go above and beyond letting us decorate and manipulate items or even place the items.
I hope it isn’t this way, but I believe it will be because it’s a cheap way to say we gave you housing why are you not happy.
Not to mention they didn’t mention a new profession, carpenter or something of the sort. So that means no furniture.
The other issue I see is blizzard rarely puts something in an expansion that will last through other expansions. I am certain player housing is gonna be the same. It will be a focal point much like delves are now. But come next expansion it won’t be there.
I really wish blizzard did more things that fit the whole game instead of simply lasting a single expansion.
What I think most people need is something that times them to the game outside of their character
On this they’ve said that housing is a plan for a decades long feature
Here’s the quote:
“ * Housing is going to be a journey for the next couple of decades. It’s going to stick around and live with us. It’s your house, it’s your home, so the team is really committed and dedicated to it and has built an entire team around it”
I think a lot of people are assuming it is a throwaway feature, but it does really seem they’ve gone far enough to even build a team for it
I think having skepticism is normal, especially when Blizzard is involved. However, I think that immediately dooming the idea and saying “It’s not gonna be good/have much effort put into it” is a bad way to view it.
I don’t expect everything on my list to be implemented. But they did have an interview and said they want to get people talking about it and see what the players want.
If we let the dev team know we DO want player housing, and we want it to last a long time, and we want ___ features, they might listen. This is just a wishlist. If many people agree, and they have the means to do it, why not, you know?
Pretty sure they haven’t mentioned much at all about it because it’s still in the planning phase. Which is why they want to get us talking and see what we want. Just because they didn’t mention a new profession doesn’t mean one can’t be added.
And I don’t see a point in housing if furniture isn’t involved.
In any case… like I said… this is a wishlist that I hope they implement. Player Housing could be really great if they put in the effort.
Yes, I’ve been playing this game since TBC, so I’m very aware of their history. That doesn’t mean I’m going to doom every future idea. I definitely have a healthy amount of skepticism, but I still want to remain hopeful.
Call me naive or whatever you want, but this was still a simple feature request. lol. I dunno why people are so negative about it. Just move along /shrug.
Player Housing has been a desire of the WoW Team for a long, long time, “at least as long as WoW has been around.” But it never felt right and had technical challenges to be solved
Blizzard is looking for feedback on what players want from the feature. And what players don’t want from it too.
The team doesn’t have much to share about Player Housing right now but will have a lot more starting early next year.
The biggest lesson learned from Garrisons was the risk of having a personal instanced environment, detracting from the social experiences of the world. Their goal for Player Housing is for a system that feels social.
Garrisons were never aimed to be Housing. Their intent was to mimic a military base to wage war against the Ion Horde.
Garrisons were intended to have Player Power attached to them, which “could distort gameplay more broadly.” Player Housing “is not a player power feature”.
While the teaser showed a “Stormwind-themed” House option, that won’t be the only option.
Player Housing is an evergreen feature intended to be expanded throughout patches and expansions.
I’m curious about the point “Goal for a system that feels social” and how it will work. Makes me a bit more hopeful that it will be a neighborhood kind of system like I was requesting. But maybe I’m misunderstanding.
Also, the second to last bullet point mentions that a Stormwind theme won’t be the only option. I just hope it’s more than just “Alliance(Stormwind)” themed and “Horde(Orgrimmar)” themed. Like I said in a previous comment, if they can just at least start with each of the main cities/races as themes. I’d probably pick a Silvermoon theme if it was available.
I want windows that show a generic exterior or the skybox, with selectable lighting effects (sunny, dark, rainy, thunderstorm). I want it to sound rainy when it’s raining outside. I want a hearth that crackles merrily. Light and sound design could add so much ambience.
I agree on the previously-expressed sentiment of indoor/outdoor clothes. We should have an indoors transmog set for our PCs. No point lounging around in heavy platemail.
I want us to be able to choose companion pets to wander the house. Certain furniture items will have a “pet slot” that the pets can randomly occupy as they path around. Certain pet objects will be resting places for them.
I want us to be able to place our alts in the house. I want to set my dwarf alt as a bar-tender, idling, taking drinks, cleaning a glass, etc… This ties in to the interior clothing. I want my Dwarf in his Brewfest finery while tending bar! Maybe even have unlockable emotes and stances. I can put my Rogue leaning quietly in the corner, flipping a dagger. Put an alt in the kitchen, cooking at the stove.
I want a Reading Chair/Bookcase in which we can store text, story, and book items. The reading chair/bookcase would have a nice reading interface, putting the book text into a larger and prettier font.
I want a music player like the Garrissons had! Perhaps made as a BoE item by engineers?
I want the interior speed inside the house to default to walking, since they will likely be much smaller. You can still toggle running normally.
