How is this even possible? I can understand a surplus of items due to everyone trying to rank up crafting… but that is a lot of wasted gold in resources…
Are people who aren’t AH Goblins just not able to make gold?..
To be fair, plenty of people will be farming the Cloth and making the Enchanted material on their own. The only real cost is the Orboreal Shards, as long as you’re willing to do the rest of the legwork on your own.
That price is still pretty low, but if you’re trying to make back whatever you can because you think the price will bottom out and you’ll lose even more, it’s not an unreasonable decision.
I imagine many people just did it to level up their skill and then wanna offload their stuff, not caring about how much gold they get back. Well at least that’s what I do. I obviously could be wrong.
People are mass producing them to get to the higher ranks of the base legendary items. Cloth is also looted by every single character in the Shadowlands.
If you wanted to make gold, you should have leveled a skinner/leatherworker.
Enchanted leather is pretty overpriced too. It seems like the Enchanted materials are the expensive part of the crafting process, and that may be why people are opting to sell at that stage. Enchanting mats aren’t cheap on my server either (Crystals, anyway), so Enchanters there may be gouging on the Enchanted mats for Legendaries so they can buy more Crystals at the inflated prices.
I think my old GM said leveling enchanting to max for Shadowlands was something like ~300k. So for sure they probably raising prices to pay for more mats
Yeah, 10k on mine last I checked. I decided to wait to finish leveling it the rest of the way up until I’m raiding consistently and have the spare purples.
everyone had their crafts and resourcing maxed in a few days with SL and without even putting effort into it. So yeah theres going to be a huge mat surplus as everyone didnt need to go HAM with crafting this xpac. I only needed to buy one stack of ore to max blacksmithing. I casually mined while i played and had more than enough.
It’s the same for Alchemy as well. The Shadowghast Ingots are selling for about a quarter of the price of the mats. I understand you can just farm the herbs needed, but if you do that you may as well just sell the herbs and not bother with ingots.
Yeah I imagine they’re going to stay high for awhile, given that casuals like me aren’t going to have much access to them. I don’t do any dungeons and I’ll only maybe do LFR sparingly, and WQs don’t reward purples anymore.
its a supply and demand issue, we have 2 weeks of hyper-supply flooding the market (as people try and level up their recipes) but people have only been able to craft legendaries for the past week, and many people are waiting until after the inevitable mythic week rebalance before they actually craft theirs.
so you have massively inflated supply, and a reduced demand.
as more people out lvl the 190 recipes you will see the flood start to slow down a LOT (something i’ve already started to see on my server) and after the rebalance and people start committing to their first legendaries (or picking up their second ones cuz iirc thats about when we will have enough ash for #2 for those of us who need more than one) you are going to see demand pick up.
now the 190 leggos are unlikely to ever be a huge money-maker. since people will still be crafting them in pretty large numbers, but you will see the profit margins come closer to break even over the next few weeks (and for the more popular pieces like cloaks, chest, and legs there is already a profit on them on some servers)
the smart move, if you really want to level your recipes now, is to make the pieces then slap them in your bank until after the mythic week rebalance and prices start to stabilize, at worst you will almost certainly end up loosing LESS gold than trying to offload them now when the market is about as over saturated as it will ever get.
I think I’m going to give up on armor crafting as a profession. Especially if you’re a LW or BS, you can typically make more consistent income by selling the raw mats than you can by crafting items and trying to sell them. The only benefit I’ve seen in the last few expansions is being able to gear yourself pretty quickly and get into heroics, which you will then replace all that gear you just made.
I think I’m going to go with Alc instead; at least I won’t have to buy pots before raids.
heh…meanwhile I casually made 100k selling goblin gliders yesterday and another 25K or so selling some of the SL crafted engineering mats (bolts and such).
This is why I stopped bothering to put in the work to make armor/gear. EVERYONE is doing it. Too much competition.
