Sometimes, with talents, azerite trait procs and trinket procs happening at the same time, I manage to reach more than 100% crit chance. Is the crit chance beyond 100% wasted/useless? Or does the excess become a probability for doing triple damage? (I highly doubt this though lol) Or does it simply increases the crit damage/healing output?
It’s wasted. Back when 10 twinks were a thing it was easy to reach 100% crit, but I stuxk to 98% and dumped into other stats
You reach 100%. The more crit you have, the less value an increase in that stat holds while providing more value to your other stats.
You just crit with every attack while you’re at 100%. It doesn’t do any more damage than just a crit. So yes, it’s wasted. You could modify your stats with gems/enchants to reduce your crit and rely on the procs to still get the 100%. Then raise your haste/mastery/vers with said gems/enchants
Not technically correct. Through sheer probability, crit does lose some value after 50%, but it still has full value up to and until 100%.
Some specs have abilities, talents, w/e that scale off your crit %, which would be increased. Aside from those cases, it’s not valuable past 100%.
I do get his point though. The interaction effect between the secondary effects provides an extra slight increase in power.
Premise 1: You have a budget of 10 points for secondary stats.
Premise 2: To simplify, say we have 2 secondary stats only, crit and haste.
Premise 3*: Both stats are equally strong, giving you +1% power
If you allocate 10 points for crit, your power would then be (1.1)(1.0) = 1.1.
But if you allocate 5 points for each crit and haste, your power would then be (1.05)(1.05) = 1.1025.
The optimal answer would then be allocating 5 points for crit and 5 points for haste because of the extra 0.025 increase in power. So I think Bozho is technically correct. You have to increase the other stat/s if you increase a stat because the stat you’re primarily stacking “loses” value.
*Identifying the optimal mix of secondary stats would of course depend on the spec/class since secondary stats aren’t equally strong in increasing your power.
To everyone who has answered my query, thank you! I honestly thought there was an added “multistrike” or “triple damage” value/probability beyond 100% crit.

I promise I understand how stats work better than you.
Instead of dismissing what I wrote as “promising that I understand it better”, can you then explain me the math of it then? Or how it is wrong? lol
I misunderstood your post, that’s entirely my fault.
The simple answer is that there is no simple answer. If there were, I’d give it to you, but it’s not something that can be broken down and be clear. Each stat has it’s own value, referred to as it’s weight. Yknow, stat weights.
Each spec in the game values stats differently, with no two treating them the same. But, as you add and subtract stats, the values of all five (4 secondaries and 1 primary) fluctuate, sometimes wildly (mini breakpoints, breakpoints, soft caps, and hard caps cause these larger, “sudden” swings)
Because of how much effect simple changing around a few stats can have, there’s not a simple equation of way to deduce it in your head. Most guides will still give a “stat priority”, but those are rudimentary at best. The correct answer will always depend on your gear at the time. And even that then comes down to, is it pure single target, or are there multiple, are you swapping targets, having downtime, holding CDs for burst windows, etc.
Did I miss anything?
