As of the end of Dragonflight, we have six Aspects - Alexstraza, Ysera, Nordzomu, Ebyssian, Kalecgos and Vyranoth. However, they were empowered by Amirdrassil, not the Titans. Is this going to cause friction with Tyr and those who are more loyal to the Titans (apart from Odyn, who’s already got issues and been humbled/humiliated by Vyranoth)?
Will the Aspects or any dragons be involved in The War Within or Midnight? These new Earthen might be of interest to the dragons. Or the newly remade Tyr. Or Odyn.
How do people think the Aspects will respond to the return of the Titans? How will they respond if they cross paths with Iridikron around this time?
Considering The Last Titan will be about seeing what the Titan Facilities actually are for I suspect we will find out about the Oathstones then when the Titans rip open the entrance to the Titan Facility under the Dragon Isles.
I suspect Midnight with the sudden appearance of the Arathi Empire in War Within and the mention of Avaloren in Dragonflight will actually have Avaloren as the Continent with the larger Revamped Zones in Quel’Thalas(and Azuremyst Isles considering the mention of a Draenei City being built) appearing along with it.
The Last Titan will combine the features of Midnight(Revamped Continents and a New Continent) and War Within(Underground Zones). That means the Patches will have Zones with 13.0.5, 13.1.5 and 13.2.5 likely having either just Revamped Zones or New Underground Zones while 13.1 and 13.2 has both.
The Dragon Isles Underground Zone therefore will be in either 13.0.5, 13.1.5 or 13.2.5 with the Underground Zones for Pandaria, Broken Isles and Zandalar being the other 2 Minor Patches.
I have great interest in the Dragon Isles Underground Zone as it will be everywhere under the Dragon Isles except Zaralek Cavern and have the Oathstones’ Magic flowing through it(Time, Red Dragonfire, Spellfrost and Dream).
The Revamped Continents with Underground Zones beneath them of the major Patches of The Last Titan will be Southern Kalimdor, Khaz-Modan and the Realms of Order.
The Revamped Continents of Midnight by contrast will be: Quel’Thalas(Launch), Azuremyst Isles(Launch), Northern Kalimdor(Launch), Lordaeron(Launch), Central Kalimdor(Patch 12.1), the Continent of Azeroth(Patch 12.1) and Outland/Draenor(Patch 12.1) with the Void Realms/Light Realms being the Final Patch.
This theory came from the mention of the Arathi Empire of Half Elves, the mention of Avaloren(based on the Fairyland of Avalon where King Arthur was last seen) and Metzen mentioning at Blizzcon that in The Last Titan we’d see what’s going on with the Titan Facilities imbedded in Azeroth.
I hate to say it but I don’t really get from a narrative stand point why returning aspects to their old power was even a thing they wanted to do, because as you’ve said, what are they going to do with them? Kill a few again for the sake of drama? I doubt it, but if they’re not in a narrative position where any would die I also struggle to imagine them contributing anything of value.
I could see the aspects coming back during the Last Titan either as major figures or a side content. As for what role they play we don’t have enough information about the next couple of expansions to do more than speculate.
I think they’ll play a role in The Last Titan, as the Titans would be interested to know what became of the Aspects they empowered AND Iridikron has been stewing in his grudge against them and the Titans for thousands of years of imprisoned (even more than Illidan, but at least Illidan was able to move around in his cell), so he’d want to settle the score.
I don’t think so. I mean if the aspects got their powers back by Azeroth via Amidrassil, the very world soul Tyr and co were created to protect and serve, I doubt they would have any issues. Given that Tyr was brought back proper post raid. Odyn for certain will want to get revenge on Vyranoth for freezing him but also freeing the Storm Dragons.
I like Iridikron, but that fact he is going to be on a bus until the last Titan worries me. In a sense that Iridikron was clearly conceptualized and is part of the “Danuser’s Baby” storyline that is Dragonflight. He is going to be in the hands of completely different writers come the Last Titan and that makes me worried regarding the consistency of his character and motivations. We’re going to spend years speculating about what he’s up to and then he’s going to go out like a fart. It’s certainly happened before.
Like, I don’t see how you can get him wrong, but if Danuser was still around, at least he would be consistent.
With Danuser out and Metzen or someone else at the reigns, it really makes me wonder how much of a shift we’re are going to see in the Worldsoul Saga. We saw it in Shadowlands certainly.
Honestly, I feel like Tyr is in a similar boat? There was a LOT of talk about how sketchy and mysterious he is, but then he flat out returns and… he’s a curious cinnamon roll? Is that the twist? He was actually good? But was this twist born out of the writers plan or a shift of vision of the leadership because they simply had different plans for him?
The point the ramble is, I can no longer separate Warcraft’s characters and stories from ultimately being the mouthpiece of whoever’s writing them at the time.
In regards to Iridikron specifically, I wouldn’t mind if he ended up redeemed to be honest. Vyranoth kind of felt… I don’t know. Not very satisfying, to see her just turn around and join the Aspects. Her grudge seemed very well justified. I feel like she could’ve taken a patch to be a raid boss, and then been spared by Alexstraza and come around to changing her way of thinking.
Iridikron has definitely taken those steps forward that Vyranoth should have. If he see’s what the Void intends to do to Azeroth, and then changes his allegiance, it wouldn’t feel strange. Sure, he hates the Titans, but how he can justify replacing the Titans with the Void Lords is some narrative dissonance that I feel should be addressed. At some point he should question what makes the Void so different from Order in regards to the fate of the world.
They are absolutely going to have a massive repopulation spree the second the little guys like you and me leave for TWW.
They go from having drakonid die to save a single dragon egg to giving the adventurer his own family of whelps to raise just because by then they know they’re going to make so, so many more.
Oh, definitely agreed on Vyranoth. Like, she was fine plundering the fruits of Deathwing’s warcrimes but burning a sacred tree is too far? That’s fine actually. But, if she wasn’t going to spend a patch as a raid boss, I think she should have just warned the Aspects and then then basically go “Peace out.”
She decides she’s not going to be complicit burning the tree, but she’s not going to make nice with the aspects. It would allowed her character more time to develop during the World Soul Saga where she could appear as an on and off ally.
I agree about Vyranoth. I like your idea for how her turn to good was done better than what we got. The idea is good, but how you executed it was better.
As for Iridikron, I think him turning good would be strange. He was presented at the most ruthless of the Primal Incarnates. Mr “victory by any means necessary”. In fact, I was surprised when Fyrakk went off the rails. It was Iridikron who was the most ruthless while Fyrakk and Vyranoth were said to be loyal to the Primalist ideals. When Razageth was killed, it was Vyranoth and Fyrakk who mourned her - showing the sadness and anger stages of grief respectively - while Iridikron was dismissive of his sister’s death.
Blizzard’s story seems to be an example of the old saying - “Too many cooks spoil the broth”.
