Since the start of this expansion, I have maybe ran 5 dungeons mostly on Alts that I was attempting to level through the Threads of Fate option. I’m not sure which expansion started the whole “GO, GO, GO” mentality, nor could I tell you WHY that mentality seems to be the prevailing process now. I have been in so many dungeons that have just gone so sideways from tanks skipping as many mobs as possible following this “GO, GO, GO” mentality because someone ALWAYS pulls another pack(s). To be honest, the whole experience went by so quickly that I couldn’t possibly even tell you what we were doing, where we were going, or why. Personally, I like to take my time and learn the encounters, paths, etc. by playing the game… not watching other people’s runs on Youtube, streams, Wowhead, etc. The general behavior in this MMORPG (It could be all MMORPGs, I don’t know as this is the only one that I have ever played) has gotten so bad that I cringe when I think about running a dungeon, especially if I’m tanking… because as a tank, naturally, everything is your fault.
I play this game to have fun… escape from reality… whatever you want to call it. It’s a nice break from normal day to day routine. I don’t want to feel like running a dungeon is a job that I have to get done as quickly as possible because this is a GAME that we are supposed to ENJOY. Even if you’re using dungeons to level, guess what: those mobs you’re skipping are wasted XP. I see the argument for “must maximize XP per hour lols”, but shouldn’t the game be fun and not a chore?
I can’t be the only one that feels this way out of the entire playerbase, so if anyone ever wants to run a dungeon Horde side, where we take our time and not try to plow through like a bull in a China shop, by all means, give me a yell.
Trickle down. People see high level players do it and think its necessary in all levels of play. That or they do it in normal/heroic dungeons to practice for M+.
Assuming you are talking about M+, you can advertise that you are running a “chill group” and add in the comments area that you want to just go for completion and not for a timed run. That should help you find folks that want to do what you want to.
It’s just a habit from M+ and I don’t want to spend more time than I have to in dungeons. When all the xp is at the end its more efficient to just kill the last boss with as little interference as possible. The xp from mobs is trivial
Happened? The ‘go go go’ mentality has existed in wow since classic. 45 minute Baron runs were a byproduct of that. I wiped many times in pugs during classic because tanks forgot mobs ran or because someone got feared. (One of the reasons pugs have a reputation for sucking)
In dungeons like Mara or Gnomer, players would try to find/take advantage of any shortcut available, even going as far as glitching the map through wall jumping.
It’s mainly the M+ mentality, a lot of players have routes and exploits they like to use, similar to freehold boosting. It’s faster and quicker to simply down the final boss, seeing as they nerfed trash XP. In response to FH boosting, so groups skip as much as they can to get to the final boss as fast as possible.
Actually, I wasn’t even referring to M+, just N/H/M. I have never enjoyed M+ content. Don’t get me wrong, I realize the necessity for fast runs in M+, I’m just not the type of player that cares for it. Sadly, it seems to be what this expansion is ALL about.
While this is true, Mythic plus really encouraged and rewarded this mentality to such a degree that I honestly feel like it’s made dungeons at all levels of play far worse for anyone. I recently tried leveling my druid tank again, in Wrath, and been kicked several times for not pulling fast enough, and telling DPS to stop pulling for me.
Running through dungeons while leveling always felt like an issue to me, even before mythic dungeons existed. People want to rush through things that I know some have waited a very long time to get into. I never understood that as a dps. Some tanks and healers try to rush the group sometimes and I understand to a point if they like to challenge themselves but it often led to wipes and insults by the person wanting to go faster lol.
I like to take my time and enjoy the run. I don’t like going so slow that we are just standing around or something but slow enough to effectively take every group of mobs down and feel like I was able to use my interrupts and stuff well enough to make the run a little easier and fun.
This is a big reason why I like to choose the cata chromie time while leveling right now. You cannot just run through the dungeons quite as easily and I have a much more fun time interacting with the group and getting through the dungeon together.
Mythic I think, has made more and more people become used to barreling through dungeons but it’s always been a mindset for some and not for others. Mythic dungeons without a timer would be more my cup of tea lol slow and steady.
M+ incentivized finding the most efficient routes and that whole practice trickles down into the lower difficulties - which is to be expected. Information makes people try to be as efficient as possible, and the most efficient way of doing something often isn’t the most enjoyable way.
Like how everyone wants to trash skip, and then winds up pulling more than they tried to skip because one person missed the patrol.
