Sounds like you were right to take a break. You sound quite upset.
Is it Lionking?
A bunch of people moved on from the game due to content lull, disillusionment with the game’s direction and other issues. WOD may have pruned our friendslists, but many returned for Legion and then many of us left again during BFA and came back hoping SHL would be better, only to quit and move on to other MMOs (namely FFXIV).
I actually found more old homies than ever in Silvermoon (people I hadn’t spoken to since Cata) only for me to quit again because the game’s just…not good. I’ve basically moved my WoW RP over to discord.
It wasn’t. But it is now
Thanks. I rather wish I could say I was upset.
In truth, I’m just tired. WoW tires me out. The forums are the only thing I find consistently enjoyable anymore.
This should be a slap in the face to whatever higher up that will never read this. The people who run this game should see how crappy their product is for people to legitimately enjoy the forum experience more that the game those forums support.
Not evening mentioning that the forums suck on their own
Deleted my previous post because I don’t want to be negative on the forums haha. Never fun.
When playing on my Alliance characters I notice SW is barely alive aside from the occasional pvp circle that hangs out in front of the AH. I’ve also noticed many migrating to MG Alliance.
As far as Horde goes whenever I log on it always seems lively though it may be the time of day that will determine how active it can be. BfA zones are still lively as well. Everytime I get an alt there I come across many people but some are from other servers as well.
Many factors as to why the server is how it is right now. I’ve yet to touch endgame or even RP, I just level alts for covenant transmog then never touch them again.
I mean, you could find something other than random walkup RP. There’s events and guilds out there that RP quite frequently.
I’m not sure “just go to an event” is the answer here. If someone is inquiring about the state of a server’s walk-up RP scene, it’s probably because they, well, enjoy walk-up RP.
It’s casual, easily accessible, and low-impact, and some people prefer that over more “intense” guild- or event-based RP. It’s also a great way to manage burnout! Immersing yourself in more involved narratives can get exhausting after awhile (especially if you’re the one coordinating said narratives), and being able to jump into something more casual and less intense can be a godsend.
But more importantly, the health of an RP server is directly tied to the health of its walk-up RP scene. Random, city-based RP is the main avenue via which new roleplayers are introduced to and eventually integrated into the wider community. If a server’s walk-up RP starts to dry up, so too will the amount of fresh blood flowing into the community.
Walk-up RP dies. Population growth stagnates. Burnout increases. People bleed off to other servers.
It’s not good!
And we need to offer something more constructive than directing people to a type of RP they might not enjoy, and which isn’t always easy to break into on top of that.
But as to what we can offer, I admit I just… don’t know. It’s not an easy fix.
True I can’t offer too much more than idling in the middle of a city, I suppose. OP addressed guild RP as well, thats what drew me to the thread. Have a great day.
i ate it 'cuz the angry spaghetti monster with painted on mad eyebrows told me to

The world is ending… Though few believe it.
I was being semi-sarcastic with my post. Though I do have some basis in it.
Also, controversial opinion I guess: if a roleplay community on wow doesn’t have walk-ups, that’s not a good sign of the health of the community.
Also applies to walk-ups or public roleplay that is abrasive and insufferable and/or just people looking for salacious things.
I’m genuinely curious if there are any other games out there that have a healthier RP scene than WoW.
Because yes, while the community is either noticeably shrinking or becoming more insulated, I’ve tried other MMOs and I can’t seem to find any that have as active a roleplaying community as Wyrmrest’s, even in its diminished state.
kicks in thread
Thought I heard my name.
Critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy 14 currently has a free trial up to level 60 and includes the Heavensward expansion.
Multiple discords exist for the housing and Free Company (Read: Guild) communities in which events are organized including but not limited to:
Bar nights
Talent shows (Recite a poem! Play an actual song as an actual bard! Watch!)
Fight nights (Complete with betting on participants)
Spas / Bath Houses (Relax and socialize!)
Brothels (We have no shame!)
Little cafes with themes like sylphs (fairies) and moogles!
Screenshot contests! (Mods are against the ToS, so we’d never recommend you use them from this site, wink wink)
And more!
Edit: This post started as a meme, but I got pretty serious about it.
RP servers are Mateus / Balmung on the Crystal Data Center, though it’s hard to roll a character there unless it’s like… 2am on a weeknight.
Good news is, you can freely travel between worlds so long as you’re on the same data center
FFXIV.
I’m sure people on here are tired of hearing about FFXIV, but it has an absolutely sprawling RP scene. I’ve seen more people crammed into the Quicksand than I’ve seen out and about in Stormwind in SL, and that’s not counting the anywhere between 30 to 50 (or more!) people milling around up and down the street outside.
I also regularly run into people roleplaying out in the world. And not, like, two or three people, groups of a dozen or more doing all sorts of stuff.
All that and I haven’t even touched the RP at the various player-run taverns in the housing districts, which I’m told regularly attract huge crowds.
Don’t forget the Crystalshouts dot com sit that also lists venues open each day and throughout the week, as well as linking to said venue Carrd sites and info.
The game also has a free trial up to level 60 on all classes, including through the acclaimed award-winning expansion, Heavensward.
Oh god, it’s glorious. There are so many great housing projects going on. Within a month I visited a sprawling, relaxing garden, a far-eastern cafe, a dojo, a beach house and a Victorian living room. I’m not being sarcastic here. The things people are able to do and the environments people are able to build are amazing.
And a personal shoutout to SWTOR for the initial question as well. It’s RP scene is not as active as FFXIV and the housing isn’t as creative, but I’ve seen some genuine interesting projects. Military bases, corporate headquarters, dirty Underworld cantinas, Jedi/Sith Academies and smuggler havens.
WoW’s RP scene is getting considerably smaller because it’s 2021and it has very little in terms of customizable content. I feel as if people were more forgiving in 2010 when fewer competing MMOs had such features, but now in 2021, they are pretty much the standard across most games.
FFXIV benefits from having writers who focus on making the world and story as consistent as possible.
As an added benefit, there really aren’t any major, “Factions,” the way WoW has the Horde and Alliance. You wouldn’t see Revanhul’s posts over on FFXIV for example, simply because there isn’t another faction to attack in such a way.
