What happened to the populations of low-level zones?

Before SL and maybe BFA the players near and at Goldshire, Darkshire, Stormwind, have vanished. And nowhere near the amount of people are questing in Duskwood, Burning Steppes or any other classic leveling zones as they were previously. Where did all these people go? Did the SL level squish make people not want to quest in Elwynn or Westfall?

They created a new leveling path. You go to a special leveling island, and from there you pick whatever expansion you want to go to.

This is somewhat unrelated but, I really wish there was one dungeon queue option “random dungeon express” or something that just queued you for the first available group regardless of xpac.

Just add that and I’d have no issues with chromie time. If people really wanna run specific dungeons feel free but I just wanna run anything lol.

Damn, really? Guess I haven’t played in a while.

What Tuskamus said here, a lot of people will pick what they consider the ‘fastest’ expansion to level in with Chromie time, such as Warlords (treasures and bonus objectives experience in addition to quests).

And just the in general people are now instanced into whatever expansion they chose to level in (can get from starter zone to 50 in one expansion), so the only ones that will be in old world zones are those that chose Cata for leveling.

It’s really slow to level in old zones, sadly. You can go 1-48 in a day or two of casual play from Island Expeditions alone in BfA, so that’s where I see everyone.

Allied races, level scaling, and much quicker leveling in general have all contributed to this, imo.

It already seems to do that if there aren’t enough people in your timeline. I’ve been getting that message a lot lately

Timeline? Can you please explain what that means?

I agree with everyone here

Levelling sucks and the world is too big for levelling

It will be forever lame

Timeline is the expansion you chose in Chromie time that I mentioned above.

Every expansion BC on is an expansion choice to play in, or also is called a ‘timeline’ to play in Chromie time.

Once you hit lvl 10 you have the option to select a timeline from Chromie in your faction’s capital. Each timeline is basically a previous WoW expansion. This makes that expansion’s content scale to level 50 so you don’t out level it.

They’re still there… you’re the one that vanished. :ghost: :ghost: :ghost:

Oh ok. This expansions seems pretty weird.

There are boons and banes to Chromie time, I believe the main intent was people could make a new char, choose an expansion, and then level from starter zone to start shadowlands in that one expansion. So they could essentially experience the full expansion content like it was new again (like seeing all of Mists instead of being done with its level range after Jade forest, and maybe a few quests in one zone after that)

Which is a nice goal, to be able to experience all the content of an expansion again while leveling up. However since it instances everyone it kind of makes a lot of places feel barren as you said, since everyone is instances into the expansion they chose.

Not to mention the dungeon situation as noted above, with dungeons being ‘locked’ to their expansion, so if you have chosen BC for instance, you only see BC dungeons as an option for the dungeon finder (to keep the immersion I suppose, or maybe keeping the dungeon list not quite so large). Instead of having all available, so you have to go back to Chromie and switch to another expansion/timeline if you want to do a dungeon finder from them.

It also isn’t perfect, as you can still definitely get to max level before experiencing everything if you don’t lock experience at some point before getting to 50.

I went back to broken isles to finish story line for my 4 year old alt and it felt like a gut punch when a level 20 something DH came through and one shot (it seemed) Slumber. I just seconds before finished a corpse run from same bear mob. I was level 43.

I’d suggest leveling an alt on Classic WoW. Arcanite Reaper is doing a big reroll right now with a focus on leveling normally with no Mage-boosts.

The world of Classic WoW is much smaller, so the playerbase isn’t stretched throughout hundreds of zones, so the zones feel alive.

you can choose classic/cataclysm timeline and go quest in draenor (after setting up your garrison), it scales every mob to 10-50 regardless of what you pick. what chromie time really is is just a limit on which dungeon you could queue for

The 10-50 leveled experience as described is inconsequential as is it is the same regardless of expansion chosen (the entire point of chromie time is leveling from 10-50 in any expansion), and choosing an expansion doesn’t lock you into doing it, but it does who you are instanced with in world content as well as dungeons.

So no, it is more than that. If you choose warlords and are questing in old world cata, there is much less likelihood to see others who are instanced for warlords but are questing in cata zones, then someone who is instanced for cata zones questing in cata zones.

I’ll try that, thanks.
