What happened to the community?

I’ve played since BC, I’ve unsubbed maybe once or twice since, I might not log in every week but I keep my sub going in case I feel like playing. I stopped playing a few months ago but came back recently for the MoP Remix as it is my favorite expansion. I already have most of the raid and world boss mounts, I have all the transmog and most of the acheivements, all the rep rewards etc. So there isn’t much for me to do but farm bronze for new mounts and mog and relive some memories by running the old raids again.

It’s been awful, nobody talks anymore, no hello, no thank you at the end. If you die you will most likely not be rez’d, and when you release you will DEFINITELY not be waited on before the group rushes to the next boss. People argue and are just generally nasty to each other.

This isn’t a ‘goodbye WoW, I’m done with you’ post, it’s a you can do better post. For an MMO to thrive you need a good community, you need a player base that engages with one another beyond trolling. There isn’t a WoW killer out there, it’s WoW itself, it’s the players and the dev team that has ignored the issues for years which allowed this sort of toxicity to become common place. Instead of logging into WoW this morning to get a bit more Bronze I’m going to log into FF and play with people that are friendly or at the very least won’t verbally abuse the party their in and if they do there are actual repercussions to it.

This is the byproduct of LFD/LFR. Why talk when you can just queue into things?

Welcome to the internet in 2024 in general…

its because the game shifted from a fun and entertaining game to a major grind to do anything meaning you now have to quit your job and play full time to get anywhere so your time played is alot more valuable so anyone wasting that time in any way you see it is a troll ruining the game.

that guy that died for the 2nd(probably 1st) time is wasting everyones time so lets not rez him and can someone please kick him because he sucks at a video game(everyone has forgotten its a damn meaningless video game) instead of talking to them and helping them improve at all.

back in WoTLK i remember i sucked at playing DK until my guild mate told me how to do the proper rotation and after that i became a zillion times better from that day forward. none of that happens anymore.

lord help you if your not massively over geared for the raid/dungeon. no invite for you even though its still early in the expansion.

im sure i will get flamed though cause people just wont accept the fact that its a video game for entertainment purposes only and scream that you have to be some super elite…at a video game or this games not for you.

Have you been to a retail store in 2024? This is people now. We let two entire generations develop a me complex, and this is the result. Sheer absolute entitlement and an entire generation without morals, possibly even two.

I had a normal SoO pug that was fun and chatty. I suspect I joined a friend group’s raid but it was enjoyable. I always at least greet the raid/group in pugs as it feels too icy otherwise. Matchmade LFG though is too brisk for it to matter. It’s trivial content and we’re probably never going to see each other again anyway.

Don’t lfr. Casuals are the most toxic part of the community.

It’s a combination of things, but not limited to:

Lack of chatter - Byproduct of LFD/LFR

The game design and grindy content - “Gogogo” attitude.

Continued poor behavior - lackluster moderation.

God forbid you’re new to the game. Attempting to learn anything or getting geared is met with vitrol.

All them folks asking for AOTC on week 1 of raid…

This is the reality in life we live in. The entitlement and the nasty behavior is common. Rest assured, those that have these issues in game, also have them out of the game.

Unfortunately it’s not going to change back. There’s no accountability anymore because you can act like a jerk, drop group, then never see the person you were just rude to ever again.

If you want a community then you’ll have to join one (a guild.)

I think if theyd done LFD at least on just your server it wouldnt be like this.

I always /bow at the end of any pug, just in case people leave immediately. I even used one of my Rez scrolls on a hunter who died while we were both outside the door in Scarlet Monastery (Armory) when the other three burst in on Harlan without waiting for us. We were left with the hallway adds. I was on my Warlock, so I switched quickly to VW. While killing those, I somehow got the aggro for the Harlan adds, too, but managed to stay alive, even as the three fighting Harlan died. Rezzed Hunter, and waited for the others to run back, while reminding them that we need to ensure everyone is in the room before starting a boss. The rest of the run went smoothly.

In the remix I make sure to say ty at the end of every run. I sometimes get another one back. It is lame. But the ones saying join a guild for community are completely right. Thats just how it is now and has been for a long time.

Hello, and Thank You for the post. :hugs:

I think if the grinds weren’t so extreme player mindsets would change. It would be about doing the content instead of getting through as much of it as efficiently as possible. If I’m grinding my mindset is very different than if I’m on a fully geared character with my “needs” met. Which is probably why the bronze thread imploded in their faces.

Im running balance and yeah…ive had to rez a few players because the healer just took off the second the fight was over and didnt bother. lol
I have no clue why some are behaving like they are.
Just the human condition, I suppose

My first rule of group content: “keep my head down, don’t do anything that could potentially trigger drama and just get it over with so I can get back to playing the game”

I feel like you should know the answer if you been playing since BC. Cross server and everything LFG killed the community.

IMO it’s because a majority of the players are veterans in the game and haven’t been WoW’d (no pun intended) in a while. Maybe when TWW is released, communication and teamwork will pick up due to the new environment and changes. I took a break and started playing LOTRO and its been a breath of fresh air.

That’s Exactly What im talking about
