What happened to old Microsoft games?

I remember a time when Microsoft gave Minesweeper, Solitaire etc for free, what happened to this??

All I’ve found out is that you have to go through some lengthy process to get them on Windows 10!!

My W10 install has free Microsoft Solitaire Collection, so I don’t really know what you’re talking about. But of all the things to complain about… Self-entitled much?

I was just curious was all. Not self-entitled as I don’t care that much if they aren’t there.

Most of those were only included to “train” people on how to use a mouse. That they had some kind of gameplay as well was simply a plus. They remained in Win95 and beyond likely as they were forgotten to be removed (just like the Program Manager).

We’re long past the stage of needing to teach people how to use a mouse, thus they don’t really serve a purpose anymore. Plenty of other time-wasters exist, either built in (the Solitaire Collection) or easily available.

Solitaire is in Windows 10 but Minesweeper, Pinball, those cute midi files, and snippets of rock, classical and jazz music no longer make the cut. I’m surprised they even left Solitaire in since consumers get Windows 10 mainly to serve as a test bench for enterprise software customers.

Can you imagine the fallout if the file deletion bug in 1809 made to rollouts for enterprise and educational?

Probably because they’re so easy to get for free MS decided to stop updating them for windows.

Where in the Windows Store are the old midi files? I had to dig out the Canyon midi file from an old Windows 2000. That one always reminded me of Buckaroo Banzai for some reason.

my assumption (likely untrue but ill keep thinking it):

Cortana.
They force that bloatware that is baked into the core system and didnt wanan load too much bloatware so they removed their 20+ years of games preloaded
