What happened to Madelynne?

Not sure how many of you remember our unofficial Queen of Lordaeron.

I remember Madelynne, but I don’t know what happened. Likely quit playing, I’d guess? They seemed pretty active both in Stormwind RP and on the forums and I haven’t seen them in some time.

She, and many of her guild mates had quit since then. Now, I’m not the person to look to about the hows, whys or reasons behind it. She hasn’t been online in many years and hasn’t been a hot topic name following. I’d want to believe somewhere between MOP and Legion she quit.

@Wenzli @Dloin that’s too bad, I assumed the same but had wondered if they transitioned to another character/guild. I remember that era on Moon Guard with fondness, the server was very active and I appreciated her large-scale events (even if her RP character was considered to be controversial).

I know what you mean, though for me it’s back to the Wrath/Cata days that I remember fondly. Even if things were more cliquey back then, I had a lot of friends who have since jumped ship.

Good thing is that there are a bunch of other, really cool people who still play, so even if each time I come back I have to basically reintroduce myself, I’ve never regretted it.

Didn’t her guild die by being remarkably toxic towards anyone who had a dissenting opinion of both her character concept and/or the guilds premise in its entirety?

I know I transferred to WrA because of it. I also know some others did.

I never directly interacted with her or the guild but I do recall all the gossip surrounding it - and boy was there a lot of it. I’m still always surprised when someone brings it up again due to how long ago this was.

It’s Moon Guard. Everyone and everything has gossip surrounding it.

I never really had much of a beef with BoL. There’s some arrogance but I raided with a few of them. Genuinely good natured people.

@Nerinth: Madelynne and Blood of Lordaeron were highly active when I first started making characters on Moon Guard. It was my first foray into role-playing and there was a magical quality to the large-scale RP events that were common on the server then. I guess I am nostalgic for that era.

As a side note, I am selectively choosing to forget all of the “School RP” groups being spammed in trade chat that were also active during that time period. :stuck_out_tongue:

Moon Guard has never been my “main” server, but would like to play more here after returning from taking a break from the game. I have noticed that I enjoy the RP elements of the game and the MG community much more than end game content at current.

A lot of people from that period have moved on from the game; Madelynne’s tumblr is still active, I think, and IIRC they reblog a lot of tabletop RP and more personal writings.

One of my personal disappointments is that I never really interacted with them or their guild; when I started RPing I was too intimidated by other peoples’ stories about them to reach out and I believe they had already moved most of their events to Roll20 which I wasn’t interested in. Maybe that’s also for the better, given how young I was at the time.

Kind of a shame, but understandable—In hindsight, their stories seemed very compelling and well written.

I was part of Blood of Lordaeron and its previous iterations. I played with Vesp (Madelynne) for many years. Vesp quit several years ago. The guild very briefly came back at the end of Legion due to the Siege of Lordaeron that was teased when the BfA trailer launched, but that was very short lived.

Really for the last few years there was a decreasing interest in WoW anyway and the guild largely transitioned to doing Roll20 events almost exclusively. I know some went to Final Fantasy XIV, but I don’t know how many of them are still there. There are a few of us BoL alums still around on the server, but the guild is firmly a thing of the past.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. As others have mentioned, I know Vesp’s character was controversial, as was the guild in question, but the large-scale events and well written storylines made me fall in love with RP + Moon Guard, and I am thankful for it.

Uh, no. We didn’t start things with anyone. Our position always was, “RP with us if you want, or don’t. We don’t care.” The toxicity stemmed from certain individuals around the server who couldn’t get over the fact that we didn’t “follow the lore” like they wanted us to, we just didn’t feel the need to turn the other cheek and let it go unchallenged.

The guild is gone and I prefer to let the past be the past, but your post is pure revisionism. The guild ultimately died because Vesp and most of the members got bored of playing WoW.

I’ll freely admit that it took me longer than what I’d like to admit to enjoy the idea of someone RPing as someone with a claim to the vacant Lordaeron throne. I’m a better RPer these days, tho.

Most people eventually made their peace with our existence and just let us do our thing. The only people that jumped ship for WrA were the ones who were so obsessed with what we were doing and behaved in such a toxic way the server at large turned on them.

You don’t leave a server because one guild doesn’t like you. I recall at least one or two individuals ultimately left in shame because we recorded them calling Vesp the N-Word multiple times.

Derailing the thread a bit but holy crap is this the same Terras from back in Cata days? Haven’t seen that name in a LONG time.

There were certainly some good times during that whole era, but honestly I think the server is better now. Part of it could be that the forums are more tightly regulated than they used to be, but I think in general Moon Guard is a more mature server, i.e. we’re generally nicer to each other and (at least in my experience) there’s far less elitism and toxicity.

That could be because the old player base is older and more mature in real life now, or it could be the majority of the server is made up of newer, friendlier people. I don’t know the source, but it’s nice. Maybe there are fewer large rp events, but I feel like the ones that do happen generally come with significantly less drama and bickering after the fact. We’re just out here being a nice, chill rp server. I’m not saying it’s perfect or drama free (nothing ever is when you’ve got a large group of people), but it is definitely better.
