Ight, so because I’m still really salty, over a decade later, about what Blizzard did Kael with his story in TBC, I want to play an elf who was a loyalist to him up to the point of his death and I could use some help for those more knowledge on lore than I!
So, do we have any confirmation to what happened to Kael’thas’s forces after he was killed for the second time? Is there any point where his people would disperse, or did they just keep serving the legion? Are there any noteworthy underlings of his who are still alive? Would ex-followers of Kael’thas who fought against the Horde be welcomed, or would they have to hide this? Any other information you think would help is well appreciated. Thanks in advance!
To my understanding, there isn’t really any confirmation of anything - I’d just recommend using logic to discern what makes sense and what doesn’t.
I’d say some could keep serving, while many would disperse - it depends on if they had gorged themselves to the point of being felblood elves, if they were capable of finding new sources of magic to feed upon, if they were clever enough to hide from the Legion. With the Legion now ultimately irrelevant, one could assume any who remain alive are free to do as they please, though I imagine many would want to keep their prior loyalties hidden.
As to any who are still alive… nobody knows, really. Blizzard doesn’t like to clarify things so they can either have something to work with later, or so they just don’t have to put in the extra work. One of those downsides.
From my understanding, Kael’s forces were almost the entirety of the blood elves in the Tempest Keep instances and opperating in Netherstorm, as well as the remnants from Sunwell. It was stated in the Shattrath storyline that Grand Magister Rommath was sent back to Silvermoon to retrieve the rest of his forces, and that’s where the split began basically. It’s been a loooong time since I read up on TBC lore, and admittedly because I was only getting super deep into the lore around Wrath I skimmed it a bit to catch up, so details are spotty. I do remember both Liadrin and Rommath both providing an explanation for the Scryers and the Silvermoon elven split from Kael’s forces.
I know that some of Kael’s forces peaced out and became the Scryers.
Some of Kael’s forces probably defected as BC started / As tempest keep fell.
Others went to the Sunwell / Quel’danas.
Some of the most loyal became Felblood Elves. These were slaughtered wholesale at the Sunwell.
It might be possible that some of the Felblood initiates from the Throne of KJ flew the coop. If so, they’re probably hiding/disguised, trying really hard to not make waves or stand out.
I actually used this as my approach for a Felblood toon. Loyal until the bitter end. Becomes a monster. Realizes how screwed they are. Nopes out and hides.
considering right before kil’jaeden’s fight at tomb of sargeras that he was fielding a number of felborne elves and shadow council orc warlocks as his final lines of defense, i assume a number of them would also have thrown their lot with the legion and ran off
Lor’themar Theron’s short story, In the Shadow of the Sun, mentions that some of the Sunfury returned to serving Quel’thalas after the events of Magister’s Terrace/Sunwell Plateau. I don’t remember it being clear how many, or whether there were any particular criteria regarding who was accepted back and who (if anyone) wasn’t, but in any case some became citizens of Quel’thalas again.
I feel it’s also likely that some fled Quel’danas after Kael’thas’s death and ended up elsewhere, but I can’t recall any lore on that matter.
