What Happened To Just Raiding

What happened to just turning up to raid and being competitive?

I’ve raided just about all content the gave has offered over 14 years to some degree or another.

And miss logging in 15 mins before raid for a quick dive to the AH for pot, flasks and food and flying to the instance. And giving the guildies a good run for their money. Sometimes even raiding in two guilds a week. Easy and sweet.

But not anymore, now I need to grind AP essences etc, just to keep up and not be a detriment to the guild.

Now I had a look at 8.3 with all its different currencies, and think to myself " I can’t be @#$%" doing all that. And I dont want it to be like that. I want to log on and enjoy raiding, banter and be some what competitive.

I feel the game now has four distinct game modes. Raiding, PVPing, Mythic + and World Content.

I don’t want to be forced to do world content to get my neck up to raid, I don’t want to pvp to get the best essence to raid or a gear boost from M+.

Why can’t I get the gear I want for the content I want to do by doing the content.

Raids use to have reps, eventually you got enough rep to upgrade a ring or something. But you got the rep only by raiding. Or some piece of a weapon that eventually you put together for something grand.

I feel the game needs to go back to gear specific content. Raid gear for raids, pvp for pvp, M + for M+, and go wild with world content gear as I believe people care the least about it.

If you are using a set of gear that is not from the content your doing perhaps it should be down graded till you get a set of gear from that content.

I know to many this would seem horrid, but I’m sure to some they would just like to play the content they like without jumping through hoops. And yes Blizz needs a better system than having all your gear is your bags

I love playing world of warcraft, but hate doing chores (AP ESSENCES ETC) to get to the part I love.

Just my 2 cents. Perhaps I just what too much.

Take care all

Yes I miss it too but the list to get raid ready will keep on growing because you know they need to bump up those sweet sweet time played metrics which are slowly divesting the game of any fun.

Three words…

This is literally all they care about; they want people doing EVERY bit of content rather than just the content the people WANT to do.

Because that’s all the investors care about.

Why the hell do investors even care how much we’re playing as long as we’re paying? I feel like from just a maintenance and management standpoint a customer who only logs in to raid would be much easier and more importantly CHEAPER to satisfy in the long run. We run on hamster wheels in real life every day. We don’t login to games to do that exact same thing.

I used to love raiding, but the time investment now is so much that you end up preparing for the raid much longer than ever even being in the raid. This wouldn’t be a problem if the content for the preparation was remotely engaging and rewarding. I don’t mind grinding 10s, doing past raids for things, etc. Farming hundreds of islands to get ahead of the AP curve, you have lost me.

It’s just a good game. Real good game. Really good game.

I really wouldn’t be against that.

Have a set of world gear that is 450 that has set bonuses that are beneficial to playing in the open world. But the second you step foot in a raid/BG/M+/warmode its IL drops down to 400 and it loses all it’s bonuses. Do the same with each type of content.

For every person like you that was okay with raidlogging, you had hundreds of hobos that played WoW 24/7 that craved things to do between raiding days. Remember the complaints of WoD? The no other content in the game besides raiding? People that complained about this, for years, were uncontested on the forums. It was universally thought that WoD was a terrible expansion due to the lack of things to do inside the game besides raid.

Blizzard remedied that by adding an infinite power-up to our characters that existed outside of raid.

At the end of the day, raid loggers are outnumbered 100-1 by people who don’t have jobs and play WoW every day. These people were catered to at the start of Legion. And now here we are.

You dont need to mindless farm AP or have the best essences to raid

those are there for people who have a hard time doing it with basic gear

You’re a raider… you want to log in and raid. I’m a looter. Why can’t I just log in and loot the already vanquished raid bosses?? Why should I do anything I don’t want to do??

Just as a side note, investors don’t care about time played. It’s not even something they would read about. It is unimportant to an investing mind.

Right? I’d love to play this priest again, but I can’t stomach doing a third reputation grind for essences. It’s just not fun anymore.

Remember when we could just gear? Why wasn’t that enough?

Because the more time and effort we put in, the more our accounts mean to us; ie. The Sunk Cost fallacy. The more we put into it, the less we’ll want to give up on it, meaning we’ll continue to stick around and pay through sh!tty expansions like BfA, meaning they can continue to put in as little effort as possible, repetitive systems and grinds, RNG, etc.

It’s kind of what Game Freak does with Pokemon games.
They put in as little effort as possible, keeping their team as small as possible, all to spend as little money as possible to make their profit as high as possible.
Possibly.
But hey, what do I know? I’m just someone who’s grown up seeing companies do this my entire life. But surely corporations wouldn’t be greedy and do things like that, right?

Oh you can still just raid. Screw the neck and the essences. Play when and how you want and screw the metrics.

To be fair, investors weren’t the ones who cared about time played metrics…it was ATVI’s management that introduced them to Wall Street analysts and suggested that these were the right metrics to track in order to measure how well the company was doing.

Not the case, sadly. Raids are designed around game systems, and players will insist upon meeting arbitrary requirements to even participate in a challenging/competitive environment (which is usually what raiders are seeking, on some level). Didn’t grind up your neck? You’re dead weight to the raid team. Go farm AP. Don’t have your essences? Dead weight. Go farm it.

I don’t know about you but from day one i never saw WoW as just raiding if so might as well rename WoW to World of instances craft.

You don’t have to even really farm for the necklace

The non raiding crowd got angry and upset that we were rewarded for doing hard content they would never touch. They wanted Blizzard to give us a harder time in the game. They succeeded and still do not raid themselves but made our lives much worse.

There’s more to life than raiding in WoW.

If you just wanna raid log, you do you. :woman_shrugging:

There’s just other ways to get stuff now. Besides just raiding.
