Honestly, I miss my garrison. I still go back and use it often. I have an auctioneer, my own bank, transmog, guild banners all over, familiar NPCs roaming around, and all the buildings at level 3. It just feels so wholesome. Sure it could have been better, but it was also a huge missed opportunity. There’s always a lot of talk about player housing, with FFXIV likely to blame. I’m actually surprised the FFXIV system is so popular. It’s a complete mess. I’ve had my own house in FFXIV for the past few years and I would never wish my worst enemy to have to go through the experience of being able to buy a house. The idea of having your own town, though, and in your own instance like garrisons, would be much better suited for WoW - IMO. With all that said, was there ever any official word from Blizzard on why they failed to continue utilizing/upgrading garrisons? Is it to keep people in the cities instead of their garrisons? Is that the only reason?
I, too, love my garrison. Getting the auction house there made it my perfect little city to chill in. I think they stopped working on it because it was a lot of work, and because the feature wasn’t well-received by the community.
I level my alts through WoD most of the time, and they almost always afk in their respective garrisons
There were some issues with them, but overall, I enjoyed the Garrisons for the customization, decorations, etc, plus getting to see the in-game followers hanging out.
Definitely was disappointed it was tossed along with the rest of WoD. So much wasted potential
At the time garrisons was hated and blamed for cut content. But the feature was nice and fitted the theme of WoW better then any housing ever would.
I hope they return the feature.
My Garrison is my go-to place for just about everything, from doing my auctions while sipping on a nice, warm beverage to sorting through my guild bank and doing my banking, to all the gathering and work order stuff that I can still farm and sell on the AH to this day to sleeping in my herb garden’s level 3 cottage.
It has a nice bed and a warm fireplace with flowers and flower pots everywhere and it just feels so comfortable.
I don’t think anything needs to be added to the Garrison. It’s perfect for me and has everything I need, even a nice cottage with a bed and fireplace to sleep in and get all nice and cozy. I just appreciate it for what it is and honestly, I love it.
P.s. There’s a creepy dead body in your Garrison’s level 3 fishing pond in a cave deep down. It’s been tortured and chained to a wall… I discovered it while swimming around in there one time in my Underlight Angler shark form… ^.^
Haha, yeah that was creepy!
It was always WoD only. So that expansion ended and that was that. No mystery to it.
I wonder how or why he was tortured… >.>
^.^
Canonically, we’re now cut-off from that particular chunk of the Draenor timeline, which, due to the way time worked when traveling between universes, was 30 years in the past from the main universe’s present.
(When you recruit mag’har orcs as an allied race, they are recruited from the alternate universe Draenor’s present, when everything’s gone to pot due to crazy draenei.)
Given that the pond is apparently full of murlocs somehow, despite them being native to Azeroth, I blame murlocs.
I love my garrison. It’s full of cool characters that I’ve recruited. I got all my pets bumpin’ around while my motorcycles and gyrocopters eat hay at the Stable.
There’s a lot of personality and it all looks great. I still visit occasionally, use the AH, check out the BMAH.
I use mine all the time. Its secluded, has my Halloween decorations still up, followers, pets, ebon blade guards. It has all I need. It’s the closest ill get to player housing in this game unfortunately
Oh man… I was hoping it was something darker and more… demonic! ^.^
Ah well… he ain’t getting any deader! : D
I’m just talking about leveraging existing functionality. The functionality is already there so it really should be simple to duplicate it into Azeroth - as in a brand new garrison.
I love mysteries like this also. It’s the little things that many of us veterans tend to begin ignoring once we get too used to the game, but this kind of stuff always brings me back to my roots in WoW which was really just adventure.
Only real issue with Garrisons was that you were isolated from other players while in it.
I wish we could add a barber in the inn and make the leather working tents usable everywhere besides Draenor
The main issue with Garrisons was that they put an entire city in there, including gathering deposits, so that you never had to leave at all. The second-biggest issue was that it was barely customizable at all and was, at the end of the day, more of a modular player town than player housing of any kind.
Because the garrison was instanced to a single player, and there wasn’t a lot of customization that could happen.
You had a few buildings to choose from…but that’s it.
And in WoD, the entirety of the player base was at their Garrison doing profession cool downs or using the mission table…so it made the entire world, and other previous expansions a ghost town.
I wish WoD had more content. The zones are cool…but they feel so empty. Like Shadowmoon Valley has these HUGE cities filled with…nothing. =(
