What happened to "funny" in wow?

wow used to be light hearted and not like srs bidnezz all the time.
you had things like DEHTA, and the extinctionator.
you had funny sidequests, or shoutouts like the dead DH on that mountain beside the broken down snowmobile…

like none of that is in this expansion. its like its soul has been sucked out.

Play though Ardenweald, there’s plenty of funny, and if you take Night Fae as a covenant you get to participate in a theater performance that mocks the last two expansions.

yeah but that’s not really funny as in haha, thats more like those notes you get from time to time when you buy products made in chinese sweatshops.

I disagree. The Revendreth vampires are super campy, and the whole thing with their servants is pretty hilarious. The little owl dudes in Bastion are super funny Alfreds to your Batman. Almost everything in Ardenweald is cute and fun. Have you done the stage play? Have you become a badass mob-killing mushroom in a world quest yet? Have you tossed dredgers at stuff?

Maldraxxas is of course super metal and edgy, but even that has its moments of comedy.

I don’t know what game you’ve been playing, honestly.

I have to agree completely. I got this vibe extremely when playing through Shadowlands.

Shadowlands has a different kind of humor. It’s more like the same gentle, simplistic humor you’d find in a cartoon for six-year-old children than the self-aware, often dry, and frequently morbid humor from previous WoW.

We’re supposed to get a good laugh out of all the little Disney-style cutesy (or “so ugly they’re cute”), “endearing” creatures inserted into literally each covenant, one each, as if they are a requirement - the servants in Revendreth, the owl things in Bastion (isn’t it hilarious how they talk funny and don’t you find them cute!?), various creatures in Maldraxxus, the fairies and spirits and plenty more in Ardenweald…

That kind of humor just really doesn’t cut it for me. A fairy talks at you in a squeaky voice and you’re supposed to laugh? The forced, overdone cuteness is supposed to be endearing and funny in itself instead of actually making any kind of interesting or insightful joke? A little hunchback talks at you in a mockery of a “lower-class” British accent because he’s supposed to be “dumb” and a servant (which honestly is quite demeaning). This is all just simple cartoon humor you’d expect from the average CN show, except I’ve occasionally laughed at those.

I was honestly waiting to see the goblins that had already settled in the afterlife and were trying to monetize anima. My brother and I were making jokes about how awful and frustrating that would be and to have to quest for goblins again - but now that it isn’t there, we honestly miss it. That’s classic WoW humor, but it’s gone. We’re supposed to instead care about the very deadly serious eternal skeleton wars in Maldraxxus, for instance, and I couldn’t care less.

Something more like that. Although, honestly, I was also waiting for literally any connection back to actual WoW lore and the world of WoW itself, like anything in the afterlife that looked like any recognizable WoW creature except a select few characters like Draka.

Shadowlands doesn’t feel like WoW to me at all, and this is just one of many reasons why.

Emeni quest line was pretty funny tbh.

I agree for the most part. There are some funny things of course in each xpac but most humor of the game has probably died down because of the overly offended. I know they’ve already changed out some lines from older content.

There is some good humor in Exile’s Reach. Beyond that I haven’t seen it.

The better question is, What happened to the Player’s IQ in Wow?

Seriously, that play was probably the hardest I’ve ever laughed at anything in this game. Really well done.

Because people are bound to get offended somehow.

There’s funny, but then there is cringe dialogue. Nothing about Ardenwaeld was funny.

I can agree with you about the not too serious and funny Blizzard of old. I do enjoy some of the new “humor” in SL I do agree its different than older stuff.

I also find that the seriousness of layers on the forums takes a lot of things away from what I find fun in game. Players get so serious and argue so extremely that it changes the way I sometimes see theme in game.

SO I have been taking time out away from the forums just so I can enjoy the game more…
