What happened to dungeon loot?

I recently returned after a long break (raided in WotLK and the last dungeon i ran was in Cata), so imagine my surprise to find that dungeon bosses don’t drop gear anymore. I get silver, cloth, cheese, etc. Sometimes, i can’t loot the boss at all.

So aside from xp, what’s the point of running dungeons if we can’t rely on getting gear from them?

I’m used to getting shafted with raid drops (nothing ever drops in raids, that’s why i quit doing it), but at least in dungeons, i knew i’d get something for my efforts. Now, even dungeons are apparently useless for gear.

Dungeons still drop loot?

For any standard dungeon every boss drops 1 item (a few 2) like normal?

Not sure what specifically you are referring too.

Dungeons are the most efficient place to get gear. What difficulty are you doing? You can only get loot from base mythic dungeons once per week. However, if you run timed keystones above that, a specific amount of loot drops for the group at the end of the key based on the level of difficulty done.

I suspect the OP may be referring to personal vs. legacy loot. It used to be that when any player looted a boss, a window(s) would pop up, and everyone would select, need, greed or pass to roll on what dropped. Now, everyone gets their own individualized roll on the loot table, and only the players that got something can loot the boss. The end result is mostly the same (minus some loot drama), but I can see how it would be jarring to a returning player.

This. ^

As for Mythic dungeons and the like, i’ve never messed with them. Did they even exist in Cata? I only recall Heroic dungeons.

Mythic dungeons were introduced in WoD I believe. Mythic+ was introduced in Legion. If you haven’t done any M+ yet, you’re in for a treat. Raiding is no longer the only way to advance your character. =) There is a bit of a learning curve though. >_>

The difference between now and cata is personal loot. I don’t remember when it was brought in but now with BFA it is forced as the only option.

Anyways when you loot a mob you get your own loot table. Nothing is shared unless you decide to trade after. No gold shareing, no loot rolls.

All the boss loot tables are random. Think of how when a blue would drop in wrath and you would roll for it. Now when you kill a boss and loot the game rolls for the chance for you to get an item or gold(or neck level power at max)

Also if you want to trade an item if it is an “upgrade.” in terms of item level on your charterer, it becomes soulbound.

There is also legacy loot for when running older content where you get all of the dungeon/raid loot that the party would get on your own. this is in affect at 11 levels minus your level i think.

Got it. Thank you.

I know I’m late to the party here, but I’m on board with the original post. I haven’t got gear rewarded from a heroic dungeon in I can’t tell you how long. I only ever get gold or Azerite.

I have to agree with the OP, I definitely get a LOT less loot than when I played back in Cata and even WoD. Roll or no roll. The “randomizer” seems to be broken.
I have an alt lvl paused at 40 just enjoying old content and grinding reputations in different Chromie times. On I previous lvl pause (same toon) I got exalted with all but 3 Burning Crusade factions (raid factions & Netherwing) at lvl 30, so you know I ran their dungeons countless times. Took me about 10 runs to get a single boss drop. The only way I can update his gear besides heirlooms is to quest through everywhere and hope for random epic upgrades.
Same issue on my main. There’s a noticeable gap between quest reward loot and Heroic or Mythic loot, nevermind raiding. Idk maybe it’s to push people into using War Mode and getting more random upgrades?

And don’t tell me “old thread” because most people find these through Google anyway so this is still relevant info for them.
