What happened to 8.3 being Alt Friendly?

So I decided to boost my Hunter. It was my Main toon from TBC to Legion. I swapped to Hybrid classes in Legion in order to help Tank/Heal. Well, I boosted the toon and lets see… Essences are still a pain to get. Cloak has no catch up. Profs… Why even have a crafting Profession as a new toon/alt? The amount of expulsom needed means you will never craft your 480 pieces.

Things need to fixed or were not going to get new players for Shadowlands. If somebody was to ask if coming back right now would be a good idea. I would answer with a flat out NO.

I don’t remember anyone saying 8.3 would be alt friendly. They have said they want to make Shadowlands more alt friendly, but we will have to wait and see on that one.

An alt is an alt… not a main?

This whole expansion, as well as Legion, is one huge catch up mechanic after catch up mechanic. It’s unbelievable how much players want stuff handed to them. Alts are not mains. If you want alts that are equal to mains then put in equal work.

Cloak absolutely has a catch up mechanic. Heart of Azeroth has a catch up mechanic. Some essences are annoying to get cause gear is required to obtain them. Your essences are the power house of your character. Why should a fresh character be given full power right at the start of them beginning of even starting them. This whole gimmie everything immediately attitude for the non-main character I play is an old tale.

I noticed that bfa and legion started out the same with how alt unfriendly it was. Legion went on to get better while bfa went on to get much worse.

Not as much as you think. If you were to start now, you would have trouble catching up. Especially new players. Since, I have full cleared Visions many times, I can do them with a very low ilvl toon. New players would struggle mightily. Unless huge nerfs to Essences, cloak and other gear happen no reason for new players to come right now.

They didn’t say 8.3 would be alt friendly, they did say Shadowlands would be like you said. So knowing that, why on earth would people hear “We understand the game is rough on alts right now, so we will take steps to relieve that in Shadowlands”, then have them turn around and make the next patch even worse. Doesn’t make much sense. That’s where the confusion and anger from people comes in. You acknowledge something bad but then proceed to make it worse next patch

Some requirements were made easier.

It’s a legendary. No legendary has a catch up.

I started 3 weeks ago again on my Rogue(this character I’m posting on) after a break since the first patch at a 370ish ilvl and I’m already a 450 ilvl with multiple rank 3 essences. It is, again, not that bad.

good for you posting on an old 110 alt! Your logic is mentally broken… this game has always implemented a catch up for alts and returning players in every aspect, and it will always have a catch up mechanic. This expansion has been a little different because of the numerous systems implemented and how unfriendly they are to do a first, second or 10th time.

New players are concerned with learning the game and leveling through everything. No new player with half a brain expects to be Mythic raid ready right after they start playing an MMO. Let’s be real here.

And catch up to what? Nine more months of this patch?

People won’t stop crying about “alt friendliness” until the game straight up gives them gear in the mail.

Starting again isnt the same as starting new. Farming BotE, C&S which are BIS for most DPS classes will take weeks, maybe even months for some players. They made R4 Lucid account wide, but you still have to grind it out.

Because they already had the plan in place for 8.3 while people were asking for more alt friendliness.

They couldn’t really change it because of what they had in store. However, Shadowlands is still being fleshed out, and there’s plenty of room and time to make it easier to play alts.

While I wish 8.3 was easier on alts, I can understand why they didn’t try to shoe-horn it into 8.3.

I’d maybe give you credit for putting your nose to the grind stone and knocking it out but your essences that are rank 3 are the hand out essences, and not even your BIS ones. Does it feel good to have to grind 3 weeks as a returning player to get to a mediocre essence level? How about grinding old content that no one else really does either, does that feel good?

hmmm another hidden alt post. Pretty sure every new player wants to succeed in this game, lets take a look at what that most likely means. Big numbers as dps, check. Survivability as a tank, check. Good healing as a healer, check. Wow, my BIS essences really help with that, boy wouldn’t it be nice to have them in an easier fashion instead of saying I can get them over the next 9 months?

The rumor is that by Alt friendly they mean you will need an alt for every covenant in order to be the most efficient. I think it’s kinda funny and I’m not even mad.

plenty of easy fixes. Make condensed life force pieces drop in new raid or up the drops in lfr and normal. drop the rank requirements to friendly for rank 3 on 8.2 rep ones and let the folks do current content for the new ones without catchup. Ultimately, the pathfinder part 2 will force folks to grind the pain if they want flying but it’s brutal trying to do EVERYTHING again or on multiple toons while remaining relevant with cloak as well.
