What Group Finder Addon Do You Use?

Since Blizzard, clearly, is uninterested in providing the group finder interface that was originally in TBC. And since they won’t even communicate with the community on what or when something is coming along those lines…I hear people are turning to addons to provide this functionality.

What group forming addon do you use?

How does it work?

Bonus points for saying why you prefer it over others.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Puggle

How it works: it comes with preset terms, which you can add more manually, to pick up automatically from your chat channels and sorts the messages they contain into different dungeon groups, based on which you’re searching for. Example: you select to search for Scarlet Monastery Cathedral and Razorfen Downs

In LFG chat, someone says “LFM 2 DPS SMC”, followed by “DPS LFG Cath” and then “Tank LFG RFD”. In the Puggle menu, Cathedral and RFD would both pop up with the above messages sorted into the two groups. You can then click on the name to whisper that person and form a group

Why I prefer Puggle: fun name. All of the different addons effectively work the same way

lol imagine roughing dungeons instead of forming groups with guildies

lol imagine coming into a thread like this just to post that tripe and offer nothing whatsoever.

Posted on a retail toon for extra irony.

I assume you mean pugging? There’s nothing wrong with pugs, despite what people will have you think. The only bad experience I’ve had was a troll mage needing on everything in SM Arm

You’d be surprised how enjoyable and smooth things can go with random people if you’d, you know…not assume they’re the scum of the earth before they’ve even done anything

Thanks for this! I will try it out tonight.

Been tanking for pugs without problems so far. The looking for group channel is just a bit too flooded to make grouping very easy.

I’ve found it super useful if only because it allows me to put LFG chat into its own window so that it isn’t cluttering the main chat window. Everything I’m actually looking for gets sorted into Puggle and I don’t have to worry about all the boost and “selling tank services” spam

Here is what I do:

  1. Set LFG in a separate window.
  2. Addon1: LFG Sorter (adds note in front of post like “UB-H” / “AC” ./ “RAMPS” etc.
  3. Addon2: Highlighter2 TBC Classic (By default highlights dungeon name in Green and “Heroic” in red.)
  4. Addon3: Stop Boost Spam (auto hides WTS posts)

Hope this helps!

A guild, it’s really handy.

I am loving “LFG bulletin board”

Can you give a brief summary of how it works and what you like about it?

Thanks!

Oh! I like that!

Most of these addons simply scan chat looking for keywords and then give you an easy to read interface broken up by instance.

I use /g “hey who wants to run something. I’ll heal.”

I hear Puggle is nice, though.

I obviously start there, but thanks for your “suggestion” and bumping the thread for me.

LFG Bulletin Board.

Whitemane LFG channel is a cluster eff that is basically impossible to read and largely a waste of screen real estate.

How you fix it:

LFG Bulletin board parses out all chat channels based on commonly used key phrases for dungeons or raids. All you do is check the box of the dungeon you are looking for and it only shows what you want to do, and how long since the message was last posted.

It shows this in a window you can pop open from a mini AP button and close easily by hitting escape.

To solve the chat spam, you make a new chat tab with the LFG channel, put it in your main chat window, then never open that tab.

LFG bulletin board parses it even if you can’t actually see the window.

So you get notifications of what you are looking to do, and you never have to even look at the LFG chat spam.

I did a google search and found these:

LFG Group Bulletin Board

Classic Looking For Group

LFG MatchMaker TBC

ClassicLFG

They are all available on curseforge. I suspect doing a search on curseforge for tbc group finder would bring up a lot of them.

Fair enough - my first reply was snarky, but I wasn’t trying to be mean.

Thanks, I saw several of those. I was just hoping to get opinions from people who use them since I can only try out so many addons in one evening before my game-time is used up. i.e. trying to narrow down my list of candidates.
