Hi I’m getting ready to buy a GPU…it’s the last part I need for my build. I was wondering what you all would recommend for 1440 gaming. I was thinking about a 4070ti but wasn’t sure if the 4070 would be good too. I do use a lot of addons, I don’t know if that makes a difference. My build
Ryzen 9 7900x
Asus Prime x670-e pro mobo
ddr5 5600
WD black Sn850x 2tb ssd
Corsair Rm1000x shift psu

what other games do you play?
what refresh rate does your monitor have?
what graphic settings and FPS are you aiming to play at with these games?
How often do you update your GPU?
add-ons typically impact RAM more than anything and to a lesser extent the CPU depending on the add-on but it’s usually a minimal impact with modern CPUs
the 4070ti will give you around 20% more performance than the 4070 but at an additional 50-100w depending on game, not an issue with your PSU but still it will pull more power
at MSRP prices the 4070ti doesn’t make a lot of sense for $200 more than the 4070 but I haven’t checked real world prices so if the 4070 is starting to get closer in price, the 4070ti begins to look like a “viable” option
INTEL Arc 770 with 16 gigs of memory is a good mid range card now that they upgraded most driver issues.
Seems like 16 gigs on the GPU is the new standard nowadays… or it will be with upcoming new game releases.
You can get them in the $300 range. Just make sure it’s the 16 GB version.
Hi my monitor has 144 refresh rate. I’m trying to get as much FPS as I can but I don’t want to overpay for it. I want to keep the GPU as long as possible and I only play WoW for the most part. Every once in a while I start Diablo
that would be the 4070ti
that would be the 4070
4070ti…but not by a lot
probably the 4070 makes more sense
I don’t think you are the only one grappling with this. Thing is the MSRP of the 4070ti approaches the RX7900XT which is a better card at rasterization. How important is RT and DLSS to you because those push you toward the Nvidia cards.
I think all the cards mentioned above are over priced but in terms of value the RTX 4070 at $600 makes the most “sense”. Both the 4070 and ti version offer 12GB of RAM and with only a 20% performance difference between the cards, they will run the snot out of everything today at 1440p high FPS very high settings and when they can’t; the 4070 giving you 30 FPS while the 4070ti giving you 36 FPS is not a game changer in performance.
Could get a RX6800XT for $539 with free game from Newegg, check out the YouTube videos comparing it with the 4070.
I don’t know about RT or DLSS. I have a 3080 in one of my computers and haven’t noticed a big change with RT. I don’t think WoW has DLSS(not positive tho’.). Which card do you think will give me best picture? I always thought NVIDIA was the way to go but I’m not opposed to trying AMD. You think the 7900XT would have a better picture then the 4070ti or 4070? Which do you think would have highest FPS out of those cards? One thing you should know though, my monitor has G-Sync. I’m not positive but I dont think my monitor has freesync(I think thats what it is called) by AMD. Thanks for your help!!
what exactly is your monitor? Gsync should support adaptive sync as well but I believe there are specific monitors where its Nvidia only.
4070 < 4070ti =ish 7900xt . At the end of the day WoW isn’t exactly gpu intensive.
Not a direct comparison, I used a 6800xt and 3080. The AMD adrenaline software does have some minor tweaks it does that makes things look sharper and a bit darker. Though YMMV with these settings. Windows 11 for example was not playing nicely with those settings turned on for me, but my Windows 10 box was perfectly fine.
Out of the box with just driver installed, they’re the same. Depending on the driver version, one gpu might slightly be higher.
the 7900XT is the better card out of the three for pure rasterization but only about 10% better than the 4070ti so nothing real world different.
Circling back, if you have the RTX3080 why not stick with that and wait for new AMD cards this summer? In fact I would wait it out for RTX 5XXX series cards if I had a RTX3080. As is, the RTX3080 and RTX4070 are almost identical in performance. Even going to the 4070ti would not be worth it from the RTX3080. The 7900XT would just begin to enter the picture as a worth it upgrade in terms of performance.
All the mentioned cards would offer the same quality picture and like Aquorius stated your monitor may very well support Freesync as most G-sync monitors do so I would check your model number specs.
I just built a similar PC to OP and I’m using my 3080 from a previous build. Spending money on a GPU is unnecessary imo.

er… how much are you willing ti spend?
i mean… you have a 1000w PSU you can throw a 4090 in there and be done with it

Hi! Sorry took so long to get back. I was away from computer for a day. The 3080 I have is in another computer build. So ill need both graphics cards. I didn’t know AMD was coming out with new cards this summer. I have right at $1000 to spend on a card…if that helps any. I believe I might be able to swing a 7900xtx but I don’t know much about AMD GPU’s. Would you recommend that over the 4070ti? Does AMD GPU’s work well with WoW? I can wait until summer to buy. Also, my monitor does support Adaptive-Sync. Thanks for all your help!!
You have one of the top PSUs, CPUs and Motherboards on the market. Also one of the most expensive. I say pairing that combo with anything less than a 4090 is just…
Im on a Ryzen 9 7900x and ASUS ROG Strix X670E-E Gaming WiFi 6E Motherboard myself. I went with the RTX 4090 myself.
Just know a LOT of 4090s have coil whine this gen. Especially Asus. I went with the Gigabyte Gaming OC version of the 4090 due to the fact that its known for having the least amount of coil whine. Its also one of the few full 600w cards. No limiters.
This guy gets it. I mean the OP already spent some serious $$ and has a top end cpu, mobo and PSU. All top Quality stuff. At this point finish the god tier build and be done with it

I can agree with this if you have the money to spend and don’t mind. Make sure to buy Cyberpunk 2077 so you can see what your stuff does.

He obviously does. He didnt buy a b650 or even a x670 he bought an x670 Extreme. Top of the pick motherboard. Same with the CPU and PSU he chose. Nothing about his build says budget.
It says screams enthusiast
Which is strange for only playing WoW. I would consider myself an enthusiast and I went with a B650 board.
Avoid anything with less than 12GB. A lot more evidence 8GB Is not enough for today’s games.

Well if you like your RTX 3080, the RTX 4070 will offer similar performance.
AMD is releasing new GPUs this summer to compete with cards like the RTX4070 and 4070ti so I can’t really recommend one against the 4070ti since they haven’t been released but there is a very good chance they will offer equal or better performance for your money in pure rasterization.
AMD GPUs work well with WoW, ive run both AMD & Nvidia with WoW.
Except never said he only plays wow. He may be someone like myself who mains World of Warcraft but also plays AAA titles

I probably have him mixed up with someone in another thread then lol
