What got you to try WoW for the first time?

I used to be a huge roleplay nerd. 10 years ago I played Neverwinter Nights on social PvP servers like that was my real life, and loved every minute of it.

Eventually when Neverwinter became out of date and servers dies out, I had heard about WoW roleplay servers and gave it a try. And it was awesome!

I rest my case.

I was looking for something to replace FF XI and WoW is what I thought of first.

An “alleged” friend. He badgered me into in so I started playing just to shut him up. After WotLK, I developed a deep and lasting hatred of him. He died last year, so now I can only hate his corpse.

Before WoW I was big into WC3 so I was already a fan. I also played Runescape too. I had heard of WoW, but wasn’t really interested at first. Until I tried it one day, saw how wrong I was.

My late uncle was quite into WoW and I was kind of bored with Guild Wars at the time. I was probably 13/14 at the time. I got an account and drove down to set me up with all of his addons on a flashdrive. I’ve been playing off and on with various accounts since then. Part of what keeps me playing is wanting him to carry out his memory, plus my love for this damn game.

Similar. I was playing from launch on the PS2 to the Xbox 360 release (mostly because I won an Xbox), and didn’t have a PC worth a damn for the longest time.

Then it got to waiting for three-four hours for a party in FFXI, and one Xmas I was gifted with a new PC, complete with a decent monitor. I’d seen friends playing the game, and noted that the Battlechest (Which had Classic and Burning Legion included) was only 20 bucks at the Gamestop down the block. I figured I’d pick it up, now that I had a PC that would run it halfway decently, give the free trial a try, maybe pick up the new expac Wrath of the Lich King in a month or two if I played enough to bother with it.

Two days later I headed off to the Gamestop, dropped 50 dollars for Wrath, and subbed. Haven’t looked back since.

My brother-in-law bought my son a copy of the game for Christmas and came over to help him set it up and get started. After he went to bed my wife and I made a character to see what the game was like and we were hooked.

The next morning, I ran out to Target and bought my wife & I each a Battle Chest starter box (Vanilla - WotLK) and we started leveling up together after that. We didn’t buy Cataclysm right away because “What if we end up not liking the game?” It was only a couple of weeks (at most) before we bought Cataclysm & we haven’t missed an expansion since.

My friend and his rogues shenanigans in vanilla.

A friend of mine from Basic played WoW and when I got out I spent ~6 months unable to walk correctly.

I had a lot of free time so I started playing WoW.

My ex-girlfriend

Got in the beta phase 3, after someone in our guild from UO/EQ/COH got us signed up.

I was then pretty much done with Vanilla, got into Lotro for a bit. Then I got in the BC beta for a few months, never logged into Vanilla or Lotro again. Went from Bc beta pretty much into BC, after a week or something.

Beta seemed better back then? It seemed less linear, so beta kind of gave you strategy. Now you can just plop into BFA and start the grind.

I

Was playing Everquest at the time but they didn’t have fun pvp in it so I watched my buddy do Alterec Valley and that sold it for me.

I was an Ultima Online player. It was once a game based on hard work, skill and community.

It was permanently ruined forever and turned into an item-based game with the Age of Shadows expansion.

I decided to give WoW a try, since WC3 was a dope game and UO was now ruined.

Ironically, Tom Chilton (former WoW Game Director), was the lead developer on that expansion that destroyed Ultima Online.
