What goes through the balance devs heads?

So I understand balancing is hard. I understand perfect balance is likely impossible.

What I don’t understand is they allow some specs to preform poorly for long periods of time like brewmaster monk. It’s been bad for at least two expansions. Unsure how it was in Sl as I didn’t really play SL.

Squeaky wheel gets the grease. Paladins get a ton of dev attention because there are so many of them, and they cry so long and so loudly.

I doubt it is as good as the other games have it. It might just be copy paste from Garrison. I don’t have much faith they will put effort into making it good.

Nothing goes on in their heads cuz like

Maybe they could do smaller but more frequent balance changes

Maybe change an abilities damage by like 5%, see how it goes, and increase it more the next time if still needed vs the giant wild swings they like to do

Im a little unbalanced one butt cheek is bigger than the other.

Can we at least wait until we have any information on how it’s going to be implemented before complaining?

:joy: Don’t jinx it. I’m here hoping is not the case.

I actually don’t think that it is. Complex yes, but by their own design. Balance is needed for PVP only really. You don’t want warriors, hunters and mages deleting everything in sight with 2 buttons. Normalize stat builds and augment power through gear power, with some additional coefficients for pve and pvp acquired gear toa void the whole raid till you dominate pvp or vice a versa problem.

Balance in PVE in my opinion should be that on most given encounters as long as the best and worst dps are within 3-7% of each other with with skill being equal, thats gotta be considered equal no?

Lastly and most easily is why do we have master, crit, haste, and versatility as sub stats? the problems they seem to always run into is future scaling because the coefficient for one gets a bit too big down the road so a class is nuking by accident not by design. They aren’t all weighted equally so there really isn’t much build variance that allows you to stack 100% haste or 100% mastery or versatility to destroy people. It seems like the substat problem is their own complicated attempt to be elegant.

why cant it be a choice between 2 stats like haste or crit, where you can go fast or you can go big, and see which suits your playstyle better. seems like they just added too many coefficients into the damage equation and that is where the balance tends to get out of hand.

please buff brewmaster wehy is it so bad for so long?

they have testers on the ptr realm who give them feedback on what needs to be balanced (buffed or nerfed)

There are “balance devs?”

Trust me, not all of us.

But sadly (sigh), there’s a lot of truth in your words; more than I care to admit.

we all know draenei are unbalanced. may i suggest a balance ball?
BA DUM TSH…

Q: What goes through the balance devs heads?

A: Probably Starsurge

lol for 18+ years??? lol

Bro, I understand they weren’t great in Vanilla, but they’ve been untouchable golden gods ever since.

Give it a rest, already. ffs

No, they have players, not testers, on the PTR telling them to buff their main class, not telling them what needs to be balanced. And since no one plays brewmaster, no one is loud enough to convince blizz of buffing them.

I would also guess that since other tank fantasies are more popular than Brew, the devs enjoy working on them more. People work harder on things they’re excited about. And the devs clearly aren’t excited about Brewmasters.

What the deves don’t understand is very simple. Every player wants their favorite class/spec to be buffed while other class/specs are nurfed.

Now why the deves can’t understand that is mind boggling.
