Im in level 20s on my alliance affliction warlock and undead rogues and warriors are trouble in wpvp. What level, or what gear do i need to be able to kill these 2 classes? Is it possible to kill undead variations of these without level 60 + tier 2+ gear?
Phase 1, and level 42.
Once you have deathcoil is winnable. Without it, you pretty much lose if you don’t get first strike.
Seems kind of premature to make assumptions like needing tier 2 to win the matchup based on lvl 20 pvp
deathcoil, dot, fear, dot, speed reduction curse, dot, fear, /lol
warlock in a nutshell on almost any melee class
Ya those fears will be super effective against warriors
Phase 1
Warlock’s don’t need to fight anyone they just press their 2 “I win” buttons and use void sac and fear to keep you at bay till you die slowly from a dot. If the rogue is geared you’ll just die though so GL with that but that’s just literally rogue vs everyone they can even kill warriors in a stun lock if they have the gear and usually it’s the geared bored 60 rogues out there’s so prepare for pain. Warriors do big crits too but they die very fast so it’s more like a test of fortitude than anything of who dies first and since you have a soul stone, health stone, void shield, etc you’ll win just running away. If they are playing undead use bombs when they pop their racial then go back to using fear when it’s on cd
It’s not until you learn Death Coil that the fun truly begins.
Death coil before the warrior gets into beserker stance and then fear. gg
Damn. So if the rogue is geared up, im better off leveling this Frost Mage then, eh?
Who needs a rogue when that wall of text crits anyone to death. Good lord man. I kid but use some punctuation and sentence structure.
You’re probably not going to get very serious advice unless you’re posting a Warlock specific channel.
However, rogues and warriors are both fairly easy to beat at 60. You, however, made the unfortunate choice of rolling an alliance Lock, which means you are playing the class on hard mode.
I’m not sure at what level this advice becomes relevant, but for rogues:
VW or Succubus will let you kill them. Seduce on opening, hope they wotf it, if they don’t, get range shadowbolt/soulfire/shadowburn (depending on spec), dot up, you probably won at this point, if they do wotf, wait 5s, DC into fear, dot up, you won. With VW, Sac before their 5 combo points, deathcoil when available and see above.
Warriors are really easy with a succubus and VW as well. They can’t generate rage through bubble, so sac, and go to town, don’t bother with fear unless you know they are in the wrong stance. With succubus, seduce, CoE/CoS (spec dependant) shadowbolt/shadowburn, seduce, shadowbolt, seduce, shadowbolt/shadowburn, they’re dead half way through that chain if you crit at all, and they have zero ways to break charm. A good warrior will try to fear your succubus, but it’s been rare in my experience.
There’s a LOT of ways to handle rogues and warriors depending on skill levels and specs, but just know at 60, while they can sometimes be close matches, they’re all winnable.
Thanks for the detailed advice! I would have rolled horde but im leveling with a friend who was insistent on making an alliance shadow priest. One of the reasons i veered away from rolling this Mage was because i was afraid of having to fight shamans… whereas i feel like locks can handle themselves much better vs shamans.
Do you know if Soul Link/Shadowburn build (with 7 points in affliction for imp corruption and imp life tap) is viable as an alliance warlock in pre-raid gear? Thats what i was thinking about going at 60.
SL isn’t the greatest build because shamans can purge your sac bubbles. But raiding wise, you’ll be either SM/Ruin or Demo Sac/Ruin.
Leveling with a shadow priest as a warlock is actually a really good combo, you both amplify shadow damage on the targets, with improved shadowbolt and Curse of Shadows. The only problem is you share the same cc dr, but a super solid duo team.
Shamans are definitely winnable with other pvp specs though, not many understand how tremor works, and you can create macros to have your pet autokill tremor/grounding totems for the ones that do.
Ah yes, totem killing macros. I need to make those! Shamans are tough for everyone i suppose. But i tried fighting them on a test pserver and they just wreck mages, its bad. I feel like at least i have a fighting chance as a lock…
Warlocks are mushrooms.
Um this phase? Was killing a lvl 60 warrior a few times the other day. I have maybe 1 pre-bis item, and the others are drops from ST or lower dungeons, or crafted.
Melee will own you until you can peel them off you with Death Coil, into a fear.
Warlocks are extremely strong throughout vanilla/classic. The only reason they don’t meter higher in PvE is the debuff limit.
I’d say T2 or honor gear is about when it gets a lot harder for everyone to kill each other or for geared people to roflstomp non-geared people.
Phase 1.

Warriors/rogues will always be a problem for warlocks. There’s next to nothing you can do about them ripping you apart. Fear/seduce/coil won’t go very far. The best thing you can do is guzzle a potion like free action (30s snare+stun resist) or invulnerable pot (they can’t hurt you for the duration). If you can instant cast voids, then popping them for shields can help, but again, don’t expect miracles.

Locks counter rogues and warriors of = level
Not sure what your getting at or if just undergeared/offspec/rotation
