This is a topic from the EU forum. What do you miss? Some items mentioned were:
Brawler’s Guild
Torghast, as optional
Mage Tower
Dungeon Challenge Modes
Warfronts
Old specialized gear working in older content and timewalking (Heart of Azeroth, legendary weapons, etc.)
Reforging
Customization of old talent trees
Glyphs
Archeology
Older style of professions
Profession perks
Reputation tabards
Class questlines
Garrisons - Although I still use mine with personal & guild bank access, Transmogrifier, portal, and pet battles.
Old hunter pet system
Hunter bow/gun sounds
Hunter arrows and bullets with increased damaged (I do miss making them as an Engineer)
I also hate the changes made to hunter this year. No Barrage, no hunter pet in Marksman without a point, etc. From the time I made my first hunter in classic, I have enjoyed my adventures with my trustworthy hunter pet by my side. Hunting, fishing, and sitting by the fire, making arrows for my bow, and cooking dinner.
Class Questlines is probably the biggest one for me. I’m not a roleplayer but I do appreciate story and story that specifically works with my individual characters. Because surely my druid isn’t saving Azeroth for the same reason my DK is. Even a couple class quests can really give you more of a sense of purpose in the expansion. It also makes leveling a different class more worthwhile.
I miss the pvp gear of WOD. The kind where pvp gear was much stronger than raid gear in pvp. And vice versa as well, raiders gear was much stronger then pvp gear in pve.
I do miss glyphs and wish more customizations could come into the game.
Finally, I miss when raid gear was more themed around the class then it was the raid. For a made-up example just because we get an “ice” raid doesn’t mean every set needs to look like “icicles”.
mission tables (although NPC work orders have more-or-less satisfied that itch)
emissary quests (I’m not really a fan of the elite finisher quests TWW is using)
Pandaria farm
i know i’m in the minority, but i loved advancing through all the borrowed power systems and their associated campaigns. all of them from Legion through SL, particularly the Artifact system.
and i miss when zones didn’t scale to your level. and had faction-specific hubs and questchains.
and then i agree with many of the others already mentioned: glyphs, reforging, archaeology, brawler’s guild, class-specific content (mount questchains, class halls), and old professions.
most of all i miss the time when Blizzard was more focused on providing a quality experience rather than maximizing profit.
Probably just glyphs. I’m not sure why the glyph system was abandoned, I think the glyph system goes against everything modern Blizzard is about which is time gating and compartmentalization.
You can’t compartmentalize or time gate glyphs, it’s already a perfect system. They tried with Conduits and people didn’t like it. Also Conduits were lazy, glyphs were actually ambitious.
I like the rest but Symbiosis was super thumbs down for me, I was tanking but we didn’t have a DK or Monk in our group so I had to make due with Lightning Shield.
I grabbed Consecration one time by putting it on our Ret Paladin, and he was like, “Oh. What do I get? Wait… WRATH?!? What the hell am I supposed to do with this!?”
