When you go to pick an expansion/timeline to level a new character in, which expansion do you go for? Do you pick based on how recent you’ve leveled through it? Do you pick based on how efficient it is?
How do you decide what expansion to level a new character in?

Classic. 1000% because of the dungeons. I love me some vanilla dungeons.

Usually Cata because it means I can do both Classic and Cata content. But once I’ve done those too much I usually do WotLK or Legion.

TBC for me
the map is not azeroth but makes lots of sense to my brain if i want questing while waiting for dungeon finder and quite likely, enjoyment of leveling doesnt come from dungeon finder.

Heres how I rank each expansion by zone quality.
Wotlk.
Tbc.
BFA
WoD
Legion
Mop
SL
TWW
DF
CATA
Every expansion with flying has awful zones. Avoid them.

WoD or BFA. I like BFA more aesthetically, but WoD comes with a garrison stone and better questing.

For Blood Elves it’s Legion. I like doing the artifact quests. For Void Elves, Red Ridge, Westfall & Duskwood. Lots of quests you can do quickly and it’s easy to get around.
Legion since I usually roll characters whose class halls I didn’t do at the time
Expansions where I’m missing content also often what I end up picking to spread the loremaster stuff I still don’t have after all these years.
Otherwise Legion or DF. If I’m doing a blood or night elf I do their old 1-20 stuff always (old Darkshore and Quel’thalas are home), otherwise only if it’s a race where I never did the 1-20 zones.

Okay first off wrath and bc have flying, wrath has the single worst zone in the game, and that zone is literally impossible to do without flight unless you truly, deeply, unfathomably hate yourself.
Usually do wrath. I like the zone layouts and grizzly hills is always nice to revisit. Classic is my second pick as there’s a lot of dungeon variety as you level instead of getting stuck with the same handful.

BfA on alliance side, i love Kul’Tiras. Also found WoD leveling experience really awesome.
On the other side Zuldazar is horrible.

Legion. The class mount really gives you something new to work for each time you make a new toon. The only thing keeping it from being the best timewalking expac is that Blizzard decided to make the only weapon you get absolutely unusable after 10 levels.

wod was the fastest to lev in, so i used to do it there
now, what ever is faster
FWIW it does scale passably if you can get your hands on cheap relics but that’s a fair critique
Legion. Overall it was my favorite expac anyway.
IMO, the current leveling experience is the best leveling experience… it’s quick and efficient, I’ve no interest in a slow and boring leveling experience with a bad story, like in the early days of the game.
warlords and not even close. Prob the best expansion release with great questing\cinematics\characters
Okay first off wrath and bc have flying
I mean at level 0, (but not level 0 because it’s whatever that particular contentinent starts at.)
wrath has the single worst zone in the game, and that zone is literally impossible to do without flight unless you truly
Kinda proves my point. Zones that were designed to accommodate flying all suck.
When I want to go fast I pick BfA or DF.
When I want story and be a bit slower I go to Legion (since its different for each class).
I flip flop between DF and Cataclysm these days.
I still enjoy the old world, I guess vanilla zones with MOP next on my list to go hang out in. Can just go spend my time in MOP listening to the music and drifting away in thought.
Meanwhile, you died to a tiger.
