I am assuming they are mainly a support role (heals, totems, purging enemies etc) , but I am wondering if they are primarily elemental or resto. Also, how desirable are they in most comps? I know allies rock 1 to 2 pallies but idk if shamans are that needed. I feel like 2 elemental shamans would be incredibly good burst, disruption on enemy healers, and double chain lightning seems really good. I’m stoked to play one I just want to have my expectations in check. Thanks
Standing around as a ghost waiting on the rezz timer?
I hate you lol
Zap people as Ele.
Shaman are pretty good in a premade since they’re a bit beefy. They’re like the warlock of healers where they don’t have much to defend themselves but they can take some hits. It’s okay to put on a shield and just juke some interrupts. You’ve got mail and a shield.
Alone against a melee you’ll have problems but there’s no reason to be alone against a melee. IF you are then you’ve got good armor for a while. Against casters just hold onto your mana and interrupt with rank 1 earth shock. Stick in grounding totems and you can keep yourself from dying and also protect your buddies.
Only bad thing about shaman in bgs is they burn through mana like no one’s business, so you need to manage that.
I feel like rogues would be tough for sure but cant we kite warriors all day and keep the rare ret paladins away with frost shock/earthbind/ purge their freedom away?
Mainly 30 elemental 21 resto. Your job is to burst down targets with zerker and power infusion aswell as provide buffs like wind fury totem for the warriors. You need to purge and harass casters with earth shock and make good use of grounding and tremor totem. Finally you need to throw out heals when necessary.
As a shaman (all specs) your main threat is warriors and rogues. Be an orc, drop earthbind and just walk away. Rogues really aren’t going to pick an orc with a shield as someone to try their luck on. I know I wouldn’t. During my periods as even an ENHANCE orc shammy rogues rarely opened on me.
Also as Ethered said above 30 ele 21 resto is a good pvp build. No need to play a pure resto pve build with mana tide.
1v1, you are pretty deadly. For most matchups, as long as you see them coming, you probably have the advantage. Warriors with mortal strike are hard as they can close the distance you put with frost shock, and make you killable with Mortal Strike.
But, people know how dangerous shamans are with their immense toolbox, so people will be looking to hunt you down. Constantly.
Been awhile and never played on a private server but I mained a resto sham thru Naxx. and was part of the HWL groups back in the day.
pretty much everyone has covered it but cannot stress enough your totem placements, it will help a metric ton
Not much, you put yourself in the range of intercept if you wish to purge, shock or drop totems, and that’s most of your utility.
I guess elemental builds can try to burst somebody who overexerts.
Paladins are leagues above shamans when it comes to organized PvP.
In our WSG group, our shaman was very strong from a utility standpoint, but he was pretty savvy about movement and placement within the group. He held quite a bit of control, with purges, instant spell interrupts and slows, and smart totem use. Heals were secondary.
You will be wanted as resto. As resto you can avoid a lot of CC/counterspells with grounding totem and you have some of the highest heals per second there is. Also you can purge. If an enemy FC gets freedom or pops a FAP, you’ll be expected to spam purge.
Ele is okay in the same way a 3 minute mage is, but you’ll spend 3/4 of the BG drinking water.
Elemental is the way to go for sure for shaman PvP. Your healing really only suffers by 10% with a 30/0/21 elemental/resto build and you’ll be able to burst like a teenager’s pimple.
