What exactly is a Role play server?

how is it different from PVE ones? Is there any strong reason to play in a Role play server and is it worth to go for it?

It’s a server where you are in character. You aren’t some person at a computer but, a mildly drunk dwarf that avoids the goldshire inn at all cost.

From a gameplay point of view it’s exactly the same. But from a community point of view you are your toon. So in your case you’d be Smileshadow, a female DeathKnight. You mostly interact with the world from the perspective of your character.

incorrect.

RP servers have no cross realm connections. (apart from a few, but they are connected to other RP servers) So the world will appear rather empty compared to regular servers.

Arguably, making it easier to farm for rares.

You’re more likely to find an RP community to RP with. But if you don’t plan to RP then there is absolutely no difference.

I play in a few RP servers, but I don’t really RP. Not that I’m against it, and I might even partake should the situation arise, but I’ve just never gone that far with it or have felt compelled to.

That being said, I really enjoy being out in the world and questing (before Pathfinder) and seeing a group of people enjoying the game and getting into their characters. It makes the world feel better, to me. I hope Blizzard does whatever it can to cater to the community, they honestly make the game more enjoyable.

You can still connect to them if you play with someone from an RP realm. But yeah, you are right. But that doesn’t change how the game is played, which is what I meant.

A lot of people loathe the CR stuff so it’s a big deal apparently? XD

Pretty much the only real difference is the naming rules are stricter. You probably won’t see a “Noobslayer” and if you do it will be reported pretty quickly.

As so far as gameplay goes? There’s no real difference. There’s no real mechanical difference between roleplaying servers and normal servers. However, on roleplaying servers the naming rules for characters, guilds and pets are more strict, and Blizzard will force name changes on names that would otherwise not be touched on normal servers.

The main thing about roleplaying servers is that the bulk of the population on these servers are roleplayers. We engage in roleplay where we act out our characters lives as if they were real people. I’ve been roleplaying within World of Warcraft since 2006, meaning I’ve been at this now for 14 years, each of my characters has a backstory, a personality and they each have individual connections with other guilds and individuals.

You’ll run into all sorts on roleplaying servers too. Some people will just casually jump in and mess around without putting a lot of effort into their characters. Others will use addons like Total Roleplay 3 to create viewable in-game profiles for their characters and the very dedicated players will even create journals or wiki pages for their characters outside of the game. I fall into the latter crowd myself, for example, here’s one of my characters that I created after unlocking the Mag’har in BFA.

Basically it’s a server where everyone agrees to be in character.

It also has stricter naming rules because of that. Your character’s name is the literally name of an individual, not a random string of words you threw together so the game would let you in.

The thing is unfortunately there is no difference. Blizzard “says” they have more rules for it to be more friendly to RPer but they dont enforce these.

In my experience it has been a server where the player population is more touchy & easily offended, less inclined to try hard in pvp or pve, and more bent toward creative expression (sometimes producing amazing writing for the playerbase to enjoy and often producing horrible cringy writing, also enjoyed by the playerbase) …Occasionally this includes seeing some people actually RPing together, which is occassionally fun. Somehow, this has been enjoyable to me…but I’ll admit that I have a sometimes-surfacing angst for the whiny, self-righteous and frustrated types that pop up on the RP servers I have played on. Happy sunday

Ouch. Lol.

This guy falls in to one of those whiny, unhappy categories. I see him everywhere. Somehow though his presence is something I enjoy. It’s akin to those tv shows we watch, where we know the character is a prick that doesn’t offer anything meaningful or productive…but somehow that salt popcorn is just so. darn. nummers!

Same game, better people. Closer tight knit community too. Also, emerald dream has almost a 1 to 1 horde alliance ratio. Prob best server in game.
