What exactly is a Blademaster in WoW?

We saw them in Legion on Argus but other then that really nothing more. What exactly is a Blademaster? Is it a Warrior offshoot or a Paladin Offshoot? A combination of the two? Is this a class or talent build we need in WoW? What would it bring to the game?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Blademasters are the elite warriors of the Orgrimmar Orcs.
Pandaren Blade/Sword Dancers are another variant which has nothing to do with the Blademasters.

inGame-wise both of them use the warrior class to achieve this fantasy.

They’re around, just very few of them left. They’re Blizzards samurai essentially and incredibly skilled swordsmen.

They’re a hero class from WC3. And pretty much a hero class was kind of a combination of things. It’s even evolved into WoW. For example, Thrall you could look at as a Shaman/Warrior. If I’d say the combination for them would be warrior/rogue.

Possibly with the new hero talents maybe with warrior? But I think they already have a general idea what they want. I say this since Shaman is getting Farseer which was a hero class from WC3.

I would branch more to Blademaster being more a monk type with a 2h as they seem to use more like a martial arts with special powers than being over-reliant on their weapons like the warriors. It is more a mixed mystical/martial class for me than a pure martial class.

I think they’re very close to monk also with the beads necklace they use and their ascetic look.

So a less peaceful type of monk with more agressive and showy techniques.

Blademasters were a hero unit in WC3

they had abilities like Wind Walk - where they would stealth away instantly, moving at high speed, and had bonus damage on the hit coming out of stealth

also they had mirror image, where they would split into several images of themselves, the images took more damage and dealt less but were otherwise indistinguishable from the main body

also they had the ability to crit passively, and bladestorm as an ultimate

…

so they were… a rogue/warrior hybrid? kind of

Orc blademasters were primarily from the burning blade clan. Most of them from our universe fell in hard with the legion and the clan now barely exists. In the draenor universe the burning blade were part of the iron horde. As the clan name suggests, they have an affinity for fire and swords.

Conceptually they’re kind of a blend of arms warrior, rogue and monk.

Gameplay wise I believe Arms Warrior was Blizzard’s attempt to make them playable in WoW. A consummate master of using a single two-handed weapon. They fell short trying to make them generic enough for every race and every two hander.

In lore I would put them more as a two handed ninja/samurai dualist spec for Rogue or Monk. Leather wearing agility two handed sword. No traditional magic involved but able to achieve physical feats that border on magical.

If they were so skilled, then why are so few left? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Opposing the protagonists tends to end poorly for most people.

They’re basically Orcs from the Burning Blade clan that are WOW’s version of a samurai/ronin. Gameplay-wise, the closest would be an Arms Warrior.

They are masters of blades.

a blade master is just a sneaky warrior monk, originating from one of the orc clans.

From wc3, sneaky because they have windwalk invisibility. Monk because of mirror images. Warrior because of bladestorm.

Well, they’re not monks, since we can’t dual wield their swords.

I think this should cover it:

The whole video is interesting and its a great channel, though I wish he did a bit more traditional blacksmithing rather than just fabricating.

If I’m not mistaken, they fell off when the Horde became tainted by the Fel. No one was passing down the tradition. Kind of like Shamanism if it wasn’t for the Frostwolves and a couple of other outliers Shamanism would have died out for the Orcs.

From my understanding they were “honorable” warriors and the Orc Horde culture fell off and didn’t really support it anymore. Obviously you had some that fought for the Orcish Horde, but a handful of them secluded themselves away.

This, also they added the Blademaster beads to the Trading Post, so there’s that as well, along with their swords

Now if only they’d make the banners a back transmog instead of a 10-min buff from a toy. Just let me have my Burning Blade Master fantasy, dangit.

It seems like they are heading there…slowly. I was just surprised when we went to Argus and saw a LFD Blademaster running around. However with that information and having plenty of warriors to tool around with then perhaps i need to get those beads and put them on one of my Arms warriors and roll around as a Blademaster.

It’s a warrior that’s thinks they’re special
