What exactly did we gain by losing tier sets again?

Azshara’s Eternal Palace Armor Sets are expectantly awful, but still managed to surprise with just how awful.

subjective

OK

You explain what we gained then.

Used to be there’d be at least a set or two I liked, even in raids I didn’t really like the theming of.

Now, if you don’t like what the single armor-class set looks like, you’re basically boned. And this means less interesting off-set recolours, too, which means less mog potential all round.

Overall, pretty dire. And that’s ignoring the fact that the new sets just look kind of … blah.

I don’t understand your question, what did you lose?

Whether you like how something looks or not is subjective to your taste. Some people didn’t like the way Class armor looked, same way you don’t like these sets.

Likewise some people will like these sets. Can’t please everyone, and trying only ends in failure.

We lost unique class tiers.

And we gained uniquely theme sets tailored to the raid they come from.

I liked some Class sets, I despised others. I think Blind Absolution is one of the best Priest armors in the game, I also think some of the Priest sets are some of the ugliest cloth sets in the game.

And that’s all my subjective opinion. I like some of these new sets, and I don’t like some of them.

I don’t see how literally having less sets in the game is just ‘subjective’.

No, I’m not counting the difficulty level recolours as unique sets in themselves. Used to be there were a lot of unique designs, now there’s just one per armor class. Not the best.

… And we had this before. They were tailored to the class, and sometimes to the raid, too, depending on the whims of the designers.

lol

each tier was already unique and tailored to the raid it came from

we just have LESS choices and LESS variety now

we didn’t gain anything

Seeing the Notorious Gladiator recolor mail I’m actually satisfied.

Though these sets are not what I envision when I think “Azshara” or “Nazjatar.”

They claimed they’d have more time to spend on better questing gear and dungeon gear.

Which I understood for release. They had a lot of unique gear for non-raids.

But like… now?

Nothing… We gained nothing.

The Blizzard Art Department gained a second coffee break every day at 11:45 am.

No, it was great at release. The dungeons gave unique gear, questing had a lot of nice gear. A lot of good looking gear compared to other expansions where everything just shared models.

But 8.1 and now 8.2…? We’ll probably get another set of cloth/leather/mail/plate in Mechagon, but that’s about it.

I’d prefer class sets, even without the tier bonuses. Honestly, tier bonuses are horrible, at least the way they did them.

I’d prefer they make it so the ethereals sell Tier Bonus Enchants, that unlock on the vendor as you get a certain amount of the tier. Like, once you loot 2/6 of the tier, you can buy the 2p which can be applied to a piece of your armor, once you get 4/6, you can buy the 4p which can be applied to a piece of your armor. So you can then apply it to a piece you know won’t be replaced or such.

They just implemented a system where they could do “more” with less. That’s it.

I think you’re forgetting lookalikes.

I could wear monk tier, but there were enough offset pieces using the rogue tier model that I could have 2 (or more) mogs per tier of raid.

If you stripped away all rogue, Druid, dhunter and monk mogs from people who aren’t said classes I think monks and dh would have like 5-10 mpg choices.

We gained not having to raid even though we don’t want to, just to get tier for M+

Got like a few dozen existing ones still, both PvE and PvP tiers, among hundreds of other non-class specific options out there as well.

I don’t mind this new direction. I liked the cool robotic theme of the Uldir sets and I’m sure plenty would like the Aquaman style sets from this new raid. I want them to expand into different realms of taste and try to appeal to as many as possible. If you want to look like an iconic rogue, or mage, or whatever? Well, go pick one of the already existing sets. I did for this mage.

Well, for starters we have already obtained 8 Allied race Heritage sets this expansion with more on their way.

People seem to forget this. You can be upset over Tier sets but currently it’s obvious the art team is hard at work.

Let’s not forget the Heritage sets for the most part look fantastic.

They were trying out something new. Most people were excited for the change when it was mentioned back during Legion. I think that the whole idea will be scrapped obviously now becuase it will forever be associated with the failed azerite system. Still, they are some homely sets.

Removal of tier sets will allow them to design more interesting armour sets for each raid, such as Squid Hat, Squid Hat 2, and Squid Hat With Dress.
