I tend to choose a class with a fantasy I identify with or like the look/feel of. I really enjoy priest but I find it hard to connect with all the specs. Although, I thoroughly enjoy playing all three.
Did you choose priest because of class fantasy? If so, what exactly is the fantasy to you?

I play disc. Fantasy wise - nothing. Gameplay wise is atonement. Dps to heal, offensive healer type appeals to me. I enjoy it a lot.

Nothing fantasy wise really ever hit me. I rolled a priest because questing was boring and i could dungeon grind easier to max level as a healer.
I keep playing one because well of all my toons this chick is the one I have invested the most time into and call me sentamental but I can’t really let that go, so if I’m playing WoW chances are this chick is involved.
I like the mental manipulation and cosmic horror aspects of Shadow Priest. I would like to see the developers double down on the latter instead of trying to bring back the “dark angel” thing from expansions before Legion.

I like Priest because its the only class in the game that has a “good”, “evil”, and “neutral” type spec design. I like that I can be the most angelic, good person or the most evil person in the same class.

I like getting all tentacly and doing magic stuffs. Vanilla it was the original drain tank in PvP which I always liked the concept of. Good ol’ face melting.

I am a refugee.
When the Paladin stopped being a Paladin and became a Rogue I said “this is not for me” and went through all the healers until I found the closest match to the original Holy Paladin.
Anyway, my idea or fantasy of what a healer should look like is:
The best support.
Overwatch has supports.
In WoW they are turning them into DPS.
I don’t like it.
I like the Light, which is why I play both priest and paladin.
I just love the night elves :3
I wanted to be a dot class, but didn’t like pet mechanics, and shadowform was awesome.
Those are probably more mechanical than fantasy, but that’s pretty much why I rolled a shadow priest.
In terms of fantasy:
- The dark nature of using insidious magic.
- Manipulating minds requires a cunning intellect.
- I appreciate the dichotomy of (generally) wielding either the light or shadow, or both in the case of discipline.
- Shadow indicates an open mind, similar to demon hunters and warlocks. “Using the enemy’s forbidden / dangerous magic against them, rather than expressly writing it off as immoral or grotesque”

I’m in the same boat. Had this guy as an alt to my Holy Paladin since BC. When they introduced Holy Power for the first time in Cata I played with it for a bit, but I was NOT a fan. Switched to my Priest as a main start of Cata and never looked back.
I’ve always loved the Holy caster healer, and that’s what I play in every game that has healers. Or, at least the closest I can find to it.
Though in Legion the tables were turned when my Holy Paladin was an alt of this guy, because they didn’t use Holy Power in that xpac. Sadly, Legion was the last xpac Paladin was fun to play.
It was my main in 2004 when I started playing with RL friends who needed a healer. I stayed playing because Undead priest was the most broken thing in classic (when Devouring Plague was a racial).
You could literally drop a DP and SW:P on someone and walk away. Though you’d be entirely OOM.

Religious themed fantasy characters have always been a draw for me. A little ironic because I had very little religion in my background.
For me the priest is a sort of “light mage” think of a glowing pillar of light cutting through the darkness. Eyes alight, skin nearly translucent as I radiate the force of the sun contained within me. A living beacon radiating waves of calm and healing. Wounds stitched before they’ve finished being cut. Hope incarnate.
And then there’s shadow, a dark inverse of those beings of light.
Not evil, because how can a fact of reality be evil? Instead of the boorish audacity of light screaming it’s excellence from the roof tops, shadow is a whisper. Incessant and subtle, working a suggestion of doubt in your mind. Slow and sure the whispers grow until all you know is darkness. All you hear, see, and feel is darkness. Clawing at your skin to feel something real, until you beg for it to end. Only then do they grant the peace of death.
Just some thoughts. Great class. Lots of lore to chew on.

I would like an option to be a Scarlet Crusade fanatic that specializes in casting Holy damage spells.

This happened to me recently and I’m about to get a 60 boost spiest tonight after work. Can some1 steer me towards a good guide pvp&pve?
Also should I go void elf or night elf?
I do like the fantasy of Priests leaning towards the dark/void side so I think both Shadow and Disc are pretty cool in that sense… Holy is “meh” to me.
But for me it’s not really class fantasy and more because of gameplay… In the past I liked what Disc was about in theory but never really enjoyed the playstyle, but after the legion re-work and the new way atonement works now I find it to be extremely fun to play…
It’s pretty ironic that I don’t really like the “Light” fantasy and yet my two main toons over the last few expansions have been Priest and Paladin. But again it’s because of gameplay not fantasy that I play them.
