im a bit confused i look at my mobo’s features from the website it states 2x M2 socket 3 2280 PCIE 4.0 slots but then when i go to the tech spec tab it shows the above.

ontop of that i am going to run a ryzen 9 series 5900x cpu and i can see there is only 2 m2 slots excluding the GPU slots of course. so i am wondering should i be looking at the 2x m2 2280 PCIE 4.0 specs or the one above?

also it states something weird too like says X-2280 and then the other one states X -22110 but why does it say “2x 2280’s”? o.O

i plan to just buy 1 2280 2TB firecuda but i am thinking about expanding down the line and using the other m2 slot if i need to. i download a TON… of games i don’t always play them but i don’t like to delete them for storage and then when i plan to play them then redownload them again as well. 2TB might be plenty for my needs though

One slot is powered at PICE4 by the CPU, two is powered at PCIE3 by the cpu, and three is powered at PCIE4 by the X570 chipset.

You won’t have any problems using two drives.

I recommend a pcie4.0 ssd since you can

Ty. How do i know which slots pertain to what pcie? I assume the 2 pcie4 is th3 m2 slots the one where you remove the covers?

You have the ASUS ROG CROSSHAIR VIII Dark Hero, right?

See page 1-13 and 1-14 for details.

Looks like I was mistaken in my earlier post, there are only 2 M.2 PCIE slots and the CPU can do PCIE4 or PCIE3. The top one is A and powered by the CPU at either PCIE4 or PCIE 3, and the bottom one is B. B is likely powered by the X570 chipset at PCIE4.

They should all be backward compatible though, however you should get PCIE4 drives.

ahhh thanks i totally forgot i had the manual LMFAO. just so hyped up on buying parts lately. i mean i opened to check the board if damaged but that was it didn’t bother pulling the manual.

but yea i think it should run pcie4 easily i mean 1 for sure the 2nd probably as well i mean the 2nd one will just be back up later down the road i dont think i will even be using 2TB 1 for sure but not 2. usually only keep WoW up thats why other games is just on steam so i can dl and remove if i please as long as they are not huge since my internet isnt the best speed.

ty for the help
