I feel like adding disincentives wouldn’t go over very well. I mean, considering how people are reacting over the Same-Faction BG change (myself included), it would probably be something like this. It does sound like we’d need a community effort to spear this sort of thing, if at least for the health of the game.
i play both factions… there is nothing wrong with alliance Human rogues are as good if not better than undead… Dwarf hunters/priests are insanely good and throughout the expansion will become better than undead.
All the people ITT talking about how even with improved racials, people wouldn’t play Alliance are just hilarious
Do you really believe if you for example buffed the human racial to something even more absurd than WOTF, that nobody would reroll for pvp stomping? And im not talking about EMFH either, lmao. Something like “All stun durations are reduced by 50%”
The horde can have terrible racials, and i would still play horde cause fantasy wise they look cooler in my opinion. I personally think gear > racials, if we just let pvp players fight each other pvp players everything will be fine. If someone wants to play alliance they gonna play, if someone wants to play horde they gonna play it. Maybe give them better racials for pvp, but then the alliance will have instant quee and better racials = faster gear which is better than anything for pvp. I say give merc mode and fix alliance racials if anything.
Disincentives would be met with massive resistance. At this point there might not be enough incentives that wouldn’t get people up in arms to change anything.
It is like a chicken or the egg debate.
So far I’ve noticed there’s a discrepancy between whether or not people think racials are a swinging factor for choosing Alliance or Horde for PvP. I guess that follows suit with how some people aren’t concerned about them and other people are. I would agree, in the right situation a racial may change the outcome of a fight, but I’m unsure how often that situation comes up on a regular basis in comparison to other racials of other races. They could even out across multiple races for multiple encounters for all I know. That’s just an assumption, though.
Of COURSE they choose Horde for the racials.
the main issue that that its beneficial for all of the pvpers to be in the same spot. more people in the pool = more potential people to play with. that leads to everyone rolling on the same faction / server, hence servers like tichondrius back in the day where that server had a huge portion of arena players on it.
racials arent the issue like alot of people try to say. alliance racials are really strong if you know how to use them properly. horde might have some more “general purpose” racials, but in terms of pvp, especially in arenas, alliance is pretty equal. but with that being said, theres alot of people that are going to transfer to alliance or level an alt in wrath because of EMFH. people are going to suggest to add EMFH into tbc though, which shouldnt happen.
Like I said. People wouldn’t like it, but it is what is needed. You can’t just simply make it better to play Alliance you have to actively make it worse to play Horde for a switch to start to occur. To keep this faction thing going at least.
That is why I now support the removal of factions entirely. It just doesn’t make sense on any level anymore with same faction battlegrounds.
Let races dictate what major city you have access to and what AH you can buy from and that is it.
I’ve seen this pop up a few times too. It does seem that there needs to be a nice basis of PvP player support, a pool of reliable players to game with on the faction to roll it. But getting that community to appear seems to be tricky. It needs to be seeded for a community to grow, but that requires a desire for players to bother trying. Maybe it needs some celebrity power to fuel it or something?
It is tribalism. I hate to bring up politics, but it is like my 12 year old nephew that asked why anyone would vote for Biden over Trump. He has no idea what the issues or the policies are, he just knows his parents watch FOX News and are pro Trump.
He doesn’t even understand or comprehend only that it is his tribe.
Straight up answer? It’s too far gone. It needed to be addressed years ago
Here’s a question regarding racial balance. Gnomes have a nice racial for melee players, but to use it you have to play a Gnome. For some people that is a fate worse than death. What if racials were interchangeable across the races of the faction? Like, would a Horde may have considered going Alliance if they could have Escape Artist as a Human instead of a Gnome?
Personally a good race. When I look at alliance none of the races look cool to me. You guys dont get a good race till cata being worgen, if you had a few really nice looking races id be on alliance.
that would certainly help, and theres been a few streamers ive seen say that theyd go alliance if they could get their team to go (not going to name them on here, but theyre big pvp streamers). im sure some people would follow them, but theres alot that wouldnt as well since theyre already established on horde or other reasons. but some of those streamers also already have alliance alts, so maybe not, idk. i dont think theres a way for blizzard to fix the faction issue without a drastic change that would have alot of butterfly effects since its more of a player mentality problem rather than a game issue. i think the problem will somewhat sort itself out in wrath, but that doesnt really help right now.
this isnt even a thing in retail, and it would be a massive change to tbc, so i dont think it should or will happen.
I’m sure people would follow them, though I remember early on in Classic there were some controversies with youtubers and streamers attracting their fans to certain servers where they’d get a bit rambunctious or annoying to the other players there. So, I guess it might be a mixed bag.
I was speaking reliable stuns.
The history of the game proves otherwise. Racials matter a lot in faction balance. There were times when human racials were better and guess which faction had the queue times then? Alliance.
Parsing high in a competitive guild as a blood elf hunter with a cat. That stuff doesn’t matter man.
The mindset of the player is what makes it competitive and execution is what makes it good. Race bonuses are sprinkles and only matter in the top 0.5%
But they matter to faction population balance. Because a huge percentage of players want every advantage they can get.
