So 600K is kind of a lot. I don’t even have 200K. I cannot buy 262 or the one below it (the level isn’t in my head right now).
What can I do to mitigate that cost? I can save Korthite crystals, I can farm materials, etc. But what are these materials?
What exactly is required to make, for instance, the level 262 Boneshatter Vest?
My goal is to get as many materials as possible on my own so that I don’t have to pay an insane amount to get it crafted.
Edit: Basically, how many of each material do I need

I get a lot of mine opening chests in Korth.
thats rank 6? buddies told me to just get 40 korthite crystals and 1650 soulcinders.
idk why itd cost a fortune. ppl be greedy?
Talk to a leather worker in your guild. they can provide the exact requirements. They may even create it for you for a lower price.

40 crystals is almost 100k (based off of patch launch average sale on my servers).
Base item adds on another 20k+ for most legendary pieces. So, most people would want to sell for at least 150k+ minimum.
So where does the rest come from? It comes from the fact that there’s so much competition on the auction house every day that you’d be lucky to sell a few rank 5s or 6s in a day (sales have improved a bit lately however).
Making only 60k profit in a single day of posting/canceling auctions all day literally sucks. That’s why some people are still trying to sell for 300k+, because at least you don’t feel as bad as making less than minimum wage from doing boring cancel/posting all day long.
A lot more AH manipulation than should be expected of most people.
If it was something unique and not a glorified talent, maybe it would be justified.
The requirements are the same as the Rank 4, plus a Vestige of Origins, which requires 40 Korthite Crystals to make, among other mats depending on your profession.
The biggest barrier will be the Crystals. On Area 52, I can craft a Vestige of Origins for around 115k.
omg so true, I feel bad if any of my toons have a mailbox below 100k now. Waste of my time.
I’ve been selling Rank 4’s for similar margins as Rank 6’s, and they sell faster too. I really hope the 6’s start to pick up.

Same here, rank 4s have surprised me as remaining the best selling items still. Definitely not as much demand for the higher ranked base items as I thought there’d be. Prices on most rank 5/6 leggos crashed so fast on my servers, lol. On the other hand, prices on rank 4s actually went up. Go figure.

Korthite crystals sell on my server (thrall) AH for 3500g a piece… so 40 of them is 140k gold.
selling the 262 leggos for for 200k gold isn’t very greedy. It’s likely that they’re not making much profit on them unless they’re farming all the korthite themselves… which is very unlikely.
Also it costs quite a bit of gold/time getting the mats to even acquire the recipe for 262 leggos.
I just this week got enough cinders to get my first rank 6, and I’ve done Torghast at max layer every week this patch, along with being pretty optimal on my mission table. I think next week is when it’s gonna take off.
There is a HUGE variance between servers for rank 5 and rank 6 base items right now.
On Maelstrom connected realms they are like 300-500k. On Proudmoore they are like 150-300k. That’s a pretty big spread. Hopefully prices come down. Unless you’re a mythic raider or are already doing M+ at 20 I wouldn’t worry about the 1% difference in stats. Prices will come down.
It really depends on how many sellers there are and how desperate they are to get their gold back that they intially spent on crystals.
Because at 100k+ per leggo, no one is willing to take the risk of buying them and resetting prices. Basically, once the price drops, it’s going to stay that way. At least until more people start buying them. Which should hopefully happen within the next few weeks.

Would love to know the exact cost reqs of mats needed to push to rank 4. Anyone got a spreadsheet or something?
To learn all the rank 4 patterns for only 1 armor type in 9.0 was roughly 1.5 million gold. It was less if you only focused on a few specific slots.
To put this in perspective, and it’s a slightly different example but I’m sure people can relate…I sold several crystals at xpac launch for 10-14k gold EACH! I then bought them back two weeks later when I needed to level my enchanting for 1k each.
Same thing will happen. I just dont know who is dropping 600k on a rank 6 base item right now. I have millions of gold and I’m not doing it.
Correct. I got all armor types and all armor slots to rank 4, on two different servers. Shortly after 9.05 came out, I started fresh on a new server with 11 million gold. It cost me roughly gold cap to get every legendary armor type/slot and rank maxed out on that new server.
Leatherworking was the most expensive one by far, since it’s more like 2 professions in one (2 armor types, double the ranks/recipes to learn). I’d guess at least 3 mil just for that one.

I could easily farm all but 1 material, enchanted heavy callious hide.
The expensive part is the Orboreal Shard which costs 100g each and each legendary takes quite a few of them.
For example, Rank 1 leggings takes 12 Orboreal shards which means that the vendor item alone will cost 1200g each. To reach rank 2 you have to craft 15 rank 1 leggings…which is 18000 gold. To reach rank 3 you have to craft 15 rank 2 leggings which requires 18 Orboreal Shards costing 1800 gold for each legendary…which comes to 27000 gold or 45K total to unlock a rank 3 for 1 slot. And it only keeps getting more expensive from there.
And that is only taking into account the vendor item…if you buy the other required mats instead of farming the investment becomes even more expensive.
I agree. I think today with the new assault later, and Tuesday with another Torghast reset, they will start to sell a lot better.
I think it’s possible to have a Rank 6 already if you were on top of everything, but most players were probably not.
