I just logged on with my arcane mage and noticed my Arcane Missiles is greyed out. When I put cursor on it, it says need to have clearcasting. I have no idea what that means. Anybody help me on this please?

In ye olden days you could only cast Arcane Missiles if you got the clearcasting buff, that’s a proc that makes the next spell free. They changed that a while ago (legion I think), they probably webt back to that

Clearcasting is a proc from casting Arcane Blast or Arcane Explosion any Arcane spell. Apparently, they changed Arcane Missiles to only be castable when you proc Clearcasting.

LoL. Now i’m more confused. So how do I get clearcast buff and what do I have to do to use arcane missiles? It’s my best spell and and it was instant cast.

Get a stack of the clear casting buff
Casting your other spells.
Casting Arcane spells has an 8% chance of making your next Arcane Missiles or Arcane Explosion free

They just ruined my mage it is now unplayable. I cast 6 spells before it came up and I had just 1 cast before it greyed out. My mage never did much damage now its useless. I remember when they put Prismatic Barrier on a timer, I understood why they had to do that but since then any critter hits me 1 time and 99% of the time, the barrier is gone. Here somebody just said clearcasting was removed now they brought it back. The must have gotten rid of it for a reason.

mages have been among the highest DPS classes.
arcane is infamously one of the most difficult to play at optimal level.
but you have to remember that the game as it exists, after yesterday’s update, has been designed for level 80 toons in tier sets with hero talents. today, you have none of those things.

I was comfortable playing my mage for years. I may be playing him wrong but now I have no desire to play him anymore. Hard to change how I play him after 10 years.

They did massive changes to Arcane on Beta. The initial design was really bad.
The current one in Beta at least got better but is not great and takes getting used to.
Just wrap your brain around the idea it is completely changed and you need a new rotation. Hekili helps there.
Haven’t seen retail yet since they were down yesterday but I am guessing i will be bitterly regretting not finishing up an achievement on Monday even if I did badly need sleep.
I love how every class has combo’s and rotations. I love jumping through hoops to make my class work. /s
