Midnight is the next expansion it seems to be coming within the year.
While player housing is coming, I don’t think that’d take the same slot as race or class but I do think it’s not impossible that they do neither either.
Here is a brief history of what we got with each expansion
TBC: Races
Wrath: Class
Cata: Races
MoP: Race and Class
WoD: Neither (Updated player models for most races)
Legion: Class
BFA: (Allied) Races
SL: Neither (Increased customization)
DF: Race and Class
TWW: (Allied) Race
Midnight: ???
TLT: ???
It’s possible we get a new round of updated models but I find that unlikely while we’ve had these models about as long as we had the old ones the graphic fidelity hasn’t increased as much since then. A radical model update isn’t needed. Another big round of racial customization is possible/likely. Maybe all (most) race/class combos coming out at once. Like shaman, druid, paladin to all races. More allied races are likely as a full new race is highly unlikely. Class is possible but I’m not holding my breathe for it either.
I’m sure there will some high elf shenanigans in Midnight. If they’re going to open up SMC to the Alliance, they need to merge belves and velves into one race that just chooses a faction.
Even a full expansion of raids would be well worth the cost for a truly evergreen content system with countless hours of possibility
I think, if anything, more races will gain classes. Maybe the newest reskinned trolls become an allied race but I don’t think that’s happening. I really super duper hope no new specs or classes are coming. Game seems more and more out of whack with tuning and more and more specs being left out to suffer under the scorn of meta or bust community logic.
Not sure about a new class. I feel like The Last Titan is more likely for that. But since it is a blood elf centric expansion, I could only hope for belf and velf playable Spellbreakers. Maybe expand to nightborne and humans/nelves for Horde and Alliance respectively.
New race(s)? I certainly hope so, but not sure what. Probably something thematic and released during the Midnight expansion it self. So it is a wait and see situation for me.
Instead, I think it would be cool if classes got a void theme skin option that changed the appearance of our spells. So players could become void paladins, shadow hunters, dark shamans, and so on.
We’re gonna get an Allied Race for each Faction this time.
High Elf for Alliance(so they’ll finally shut up about it)
for Horde, I have no idea which race it’ll be. But it doesn’t make sense for High Elves to be for both, because Blood Elves are literally the same thing.
TLT we get a new Class.
I feel like for Midnight, at least starting out, we’ll have a temporary and partial return to Faction Separation. Separate Capitals, Separate Allied Race for each.
Maybe a class that fits the midnight theme or lore. I know we already have death knights and demon hunters but before that remember we had warriors and rogues so maybe they will make something else darker, like hunter. Maybe a new class like MM that goes full in on the dark ranger idea though I’d rather just keep playing my hunter like that.
I’m almost 100% certain we’ll get harronir in the next major patch for TWW. I don’t think we’ll get either race or class in Midnight though. I’d bet on more customization for existing models before I bet on a new race or class. There are a ton of races I would LIKE to see, and that have been requested for decades in some cases, but I’m sure if they do sneak in a new race it will be yet another lame reskin of an existing race. Hey look! You can play a dark gnome! They’re just like regular gnomes, but ooooh! They have black eyes now! OOOOOHH!!!
Didn’t they confirm SMC as the expansion capitol in Midnight? It’s possible the destroyed part will be rebuilt and then occupied by the alliance and the horde takes the currently intact part and the dead scar forms as the boarder but idk.
We got a race. Only 1 though. First time we only got 1 race with no class.
It’s possible but I find that unlikely as housing is an entirely seperate dev team then classes or races.
Housing would be more likely to make us lose a zone or a raid then a class/race. Also expansions never have just ONE thing. The housing is pretty big but to me that’s more akin to remodeling the old world we got in cata which also came with 2 new races.
