What do you think of this Ambush/Combat rogue build for leveling?

I wanted to play a rogue that does both short term damage (Ambush) and sustained damage (Combat tree). The idea is to start off with Remorseless Attacks and then move onto Improved Ambush and picking up Ghostly Strike while there like so:

This should allow me to do massive front load damage in my mid-20s. Next, I will move all the way down the Combat tree to Adrenaline Rush letting me stand toe to toe even when ambush doesn’t do the job. SS and Evis will take over. Here is the final build:

I want to take Endurance and improved Sprint because I’m on a PVP server and I plan to run and hide from the enemy faction when I encounter them.

Is this a viable leveling build?

What are its main weaknesses?

How would you tweak such a build?

I think its solid. Only thing is not having a sword/dagger specialty talent will make your damage a little lower, the imp ambush should make up for it a little. Just remember, in dungeons wait for the tank to build aggro a little then use ambush, it does so much damage youll steal aggro from the tank quite easily. Once you hit level 60 you could also drop a few points from precision if you get some nice hit gear, like mask of the unforgiven, wyrmhide shoulders, and devilsaur set, thats 6% hit plus 2% from 2/5 precision should be plentiful hit %. Also try and get a shadowfoot stabber dagger its a solid dagger for leveling. 37dps and 18% attack power plus the 8 stamina, makes it a beast. I use 2 of them currently at level 58 (character wont update on the forums) and it makes my backstab/ambush build amazing for pvp and pve.

One more note, running Master of Deception talent will help get those guaranteed backstabs and ambushes from stealth, as it makes you harder to detect. And increases your odds of survival against higher level players of the opposite faction, youd have to sacrifice some damage talents for it but i find it worth it, especially if you wanna avoid pvp. People also claim daggers are so dogpoop and terrible unleas you get a good dagger, its somewhat true, but i find running daggers is so much funner than running swords, so dont let them discourage you. Thanks for the tips. I suppose I could drop the sprint talents and get either dagger or sword spec. But I’d rather have some survivability.

This is what I’m afraid of. Do I just play it safe and garotte instead when in dungeons?

Also, how do I handle weapon swap after an ambush? Would a macro do that?

Id say go ahead and use ambush or even backstab it should be fine, its worth using the bit of energy to use feint to reduce your threat, also you can use

/run if(IsStealthed()) then UseAction([dagger name]);
/cast Ambush

it should equip your dagger in stealth, use ambush, then use

/run UseAction([sword name]);

To requip your sword. Sorry for the late reply im at work.

Also, having imp sprint is amazing, i wouldnt drop it. Im nearly 60 and i use imp sprint still, i use a 16/12/23 build, its a pvp oriented build because i favor pvp, but it works for pve too

Also, if you plan on using this around 55+ id drop the increased parry chance and reposte for other talents, youll mostly be running dungeons so you wont really need the parry chance and reposte due to the tank will be fighting the mobs, not you, itd just be wasted talents. Keep it for leveling though, reposte is really good for solo content.

That’s great. Six more talents I can place elsewhere. Thanks for all the info. Very much appreciated!

Would be my go too instead,atleast it has some sustainability talents instead of relying on a gimmick that will get you killed in raids.

Thats the basic leveling combat sword spec though. He obviously wants something different to level as. I have nothing against that spec, i leveled as it, but if hes smart, his build wont get him killed, and he will have a blast one shotting mobs with ambush!!

if that’s what he wants to do… why laugh at him? go play your level 70 shaman and leave us classic people alone.

That is probably the best build for leveling, but I want to try something different to make it interesting. If worse comes to worse, I’ll respec.

some people don’t like world pvp aka being killed outnumbered or being killed while having accidentally pulled 2 mobs but still play on pvp servers due to friends or wanting a well populated server
