As someone who has been on the other side of this many times, I can tell you this is often because of a miscommunication.
I will take the example of using right mouse to turn your character vs using the keyboard to do it simply because this is something I can speak to (I’m not familiar enough with the other situations you mentioned to feel like I should use them).
If you say that your character turns slowly and someone says just use right mouse, that’s not ignoring your problem. Given the very limited information the other person has, they are taking time out of their day to try to help you by giving you an answer that may solve your problem.
The problem here is two-fold. First, you need to make sure that you provide all the information required. For example some people can’t use right mouse due to a disability, some people are just so used to the keyboard that they can’t use the mouse, and some people just prefer keyboard to the mouse. There’s nothing wrong with that.
But when someone suggests using right mouse, it falls on you to clarify that using right mouse is not an option for you. They aren’t psychic, they can’t know what you don’t tell them.
Now the other part is that people will assume. Yes, they’ll assume that you can just use right mouse. Again though, it’s on you to clarify what exactly you mean and what you’re looking for here.
As for why people suggest workarounds, it’s because we’re not developers. We cannot fix game bugs or change how the game works, so the only thing other people can do is suggest workarounds.
For your example with a donut shop, it would be like this:
“Where is the donut shop.”
“Well there’s no donut shop here, but there is a taco bell 2 blocks north.”
There is no donut shop, but the person still tried to be helpful by providing you an alternative option. They took the initiative and, yes, assumed, and provided you with an answer that may or may not be helpful but would get you fed.
Now the miscommunication comes in because you think the answer is not helpful, but you asked the question and got an accurate answer. There is no donut shop in town, they are telling you that and also providing an alternative.
You are under no obligation to act on their advice, but people are going out of their way to take the time and mental energy to try to provide you with the answers that they can, and it’s not fair to them to be called out for “not listening” when they are just trying to be helpful.
Now imagine if instead you went:
“Anyone got directions to a donut shop? I don’t want directions to anywhere else, I only want directions to a donut shop. If you aren’t going to be helpful by answering with directions to a donut shop then don’t say anything at all.”
You clarified exactly the type of answer you are looking for. You were clear and no one will misinterpret what you are asking for.
You are also making it so the guy who would tell you there’s no donut shop, but there is a bakery that also sells great donuts, that you are not interested in his answer.
When you ask for a donut shop, most people will assume you’re asking for where to buy donuts. If there’s a generic bakery or grocery store that sells donuts, they will tell you where it is so you can buy donuts. And here you are getting mad at them for not telling you where a donut shop is.
