What do you think of Dragonflight?

I haven’t played the game in 3 years so I decided to get back into it, at least until I start working again in 3-4 months. It’s a genuine question, and I guess it’s something to read until I reach level 70.

Liked the start, quit soon after. Hoping Delves in next expansion fixes the reason I am never fully happy with the game.

Depends what you want out of it.

As someone who hated the busy work of the past several expansions, I enjoy it. I log on, I do some raids/M+/whatever, I log off. I skip dailies, I don’t have weekly chores. Easy peasy.

I find it quite boring. There’s no sense of power progression outside of the pillars for those that do the pillars. So in my mind the cosmetics have to carry all the weight. While some have been okay I have not been particularly excited with the cosmetics. There are inded things to do, I’m not trying to say there is not. But I don’t do things just to do things. Not to be dramatic but much of the content has felt dead to me is most of it just… doesn’t reach me. Not that chores are the answer. I don’t even know the answer. But I do think I’d engage more if the mogs were stepped up a bit. There’s like 6 world sets using the Suffused silhouettes.

I know I can play other games. And I do. But unless I spent several hours keying, I don’t log out satisfied.

do not buy it unless on sale

I have really enjoyed DF although I have taken a few breaks here and there, mostly after Zaralek Cavern which I found equal parts underwhelming and frustrating due to the impossibility of doing most things solo, the elite areas and the rares have way too much health for anything but a sizable group.

The dungeons are fine,

I don’t raid anymore but take a few trips through LFR and thats been “fine” nothing wrong with it but not really noteworthy.

Dragon riding is a lot of fun and I really enjoy it and doing all the races, the world quests have some good variety and the zones are beautiful and interesting.

Customisable mounts are a novelty at first but quickly becomes “meh” - its nice to be able to change your preferred dragon to your preferred colour but overall, despite having lots of different options they don’t look that different at a glance

I really don’t like what was done with professions, I think it turned crafting from an activity many could enjoy and profit from to a system for the lucky few who got a good drop, a head start on levelling or didn’t mess up where they put their (not refundable) profession points

It is a more light hearted story and doesn’t feel like the stakes are massive and urgent which has been a nice change of pace.

The open world events like the hunts and soup and the wrathion/sabellion quest area were a lot of fun but at this point you would probably struggle to have enough people doing the content.

I would rate it the best expac since Legion, but lets be honest - that is a pretty low bar
If you do decide to jump in consider that the pre order for the upcoming expac includes Dragonflight

I feel like DF has been a really good and important transition expansion between the legion model to what we’re going to be seeing in the World Soul Saga.

Dynamic flight and the airlock system are going to enable them to build some really cool experiences going forward.

It hasn’t been the best on its own but I hope we’ll be able to look back and say it is the foundation upon which they laid Metzens best works.

maybe I’m still high on the hype train, but I’m feeling positive about the future of the game and I think Dragonflight played an important part in that.

My personal experience has been that DF has made me fall in love with a game that I’ve been playing since 2004, all over again.

I started playing around this time 10 years ago when the SoO patch launched during MoP. It’s honestly surprising to see how much of a night and day difference there is between now and then. The game felt so much more lively back then. Even on late weekday nights there would be people grouped up in Stormwind/Goldshire socializing with each other. Now I’m lucky to find more than a couple of people inside the AH on an afternoon/evening. My server population is marked as “high” and yet I see less people than I did 10 years ago when it was marked as “medium” population. It’s kinda depressing.

I guess I could give it the benefit of the doubt and wait until the weekend to actually look around, but a lot has changed. Even the forums aren’t as lively as they used to be. It’s common knowledge that MMORPGs in general are on a decline, so meh. I hate to say it, but I’m not really enjoying the leveling for this expansion either, it’s starting to look linear like Shadowlands.

Honestly, PvE isn’t bad. PvP is questionable. Development thoughts on class balance, I probably disagree more this expansion than I have in a long while. And honestly, this patch is a good example of why I disagree so much.

It’s whatever to me.
Nothing good… nothing horrible.
If it never happened, I wouldn’t notice.

It’s below Legion but above BFA and SL.

Story is boring nonsense. Doesn’t have anything like Mage Tower for some reason. There’s no cool class specific stuff like the Artifact weapon skins or Class Halls. The profession revamp I don’t care about, the only thing I care about is using the crafted pieces to gear my alt since nothing is account wide and Blizzard hates alts, people playing alts, the concept of alts, etc.

The things that Dragonflight is doing right are gameplay things, but there hasn’t been a balance struck in the over bloat yet. There are still things from Legion I wish I had in the current game, like being able to Tranquility while moving, the old cat teleport, Death From Above, BFA Outlaw, Soulgorge for BDK, FDK being able to do consistent damage outside of cooldowns, etc.

My ultimate wish for the game is them to stop balancing PVE so hard. They balance it to the point where no casual, semi casual, baby casual, noob or heroic raider wants to attempt their grit in Mythic because everything just gets nerfed. There’s too much class and spec shuffling between seasons, it discourages people from Mythic raiding.
They should only balance Mythic raid and pvp, let everything else be busted, that way when you reach a ceiling you’re incentivized to move into Mythic and incentivized to do +30 keys.

There’s a reroll gameplay loop but the stuff you want account wide for your reroll isn’t account wide. Gee, I wonder why?

I like that it has less busy work. True that i am playing less. I love dragon riding. Overall there are many great features. It’s OK to be less addicted.
