What do you think about it?

I know that one of the biggest challenges to change the game engine is the old computers that many players still have.

However, when seeing the result of the work in the video below, it’s normal to come to the following question: the company can’t really improve the current product?

I would play a single player wow adventures in unreal 5 , as for a new MMO I would rather they keep it being able to be run on a toaster for more mass appeal

I think current WOW looks better than this video. Realistic doesn’t necessarily means appealing.

Interesting video,But this is only one player and npc’s ,I hate to see the lag with a fighting with special effects and server lags.

The other issue with making wow run at super high graphical fidelity in Unreal 5 is that not every player has a 6 core i5 with an RTX 3060 Ti or better. It’s probably good for the market of the game that it still technically runs on a toaster.

They have been doing better but they have stuck to their art style, which I enjoy! I think it’s super cool to see what the cities and zones would look like differently as well, just I don’t think it’s an improvement. It’s only different.

A lot of the playerbase uses a potato to play (there was uproar when the Shadowlands minimum specs listed a SSD). Them trying to play a full world like that would probably just make their systems combust.

Aside from that, WoW’s cartoonish style is very distinct. That clip (and basically all of the “I made WoW in Unreal” videos) gets rid of that. It’s pretty but, instead of looking like an improved WoW, that clip is “generic fantasy barbarian city 73” with Horde banners.

Yuck. It’s so bland. I would not be playing WoW if it looked like that.

One of the problems with Unreal is it’s made by Epic Games. Blizz would have to abide by any restrictions and limitations the engine has if they wanted to do something.

For WoW Blizz has their own custom in-house made engine that it’s built off of. So they can do anything they want with it and make the game how they want to make it. Which is a huge advantage for creative freedom.

And while people may want the realistic Unreal graphics, it’s really not WoW’s style. It’d just make WoW look like every other game and blend into the generic masses instead of being its own unique thing.

It’s not like our graphics are bad anyways. In the oldest of zones sure it can be iffy at times, but for most later expansions it’s completely beautiful everywhere you go. There is nothing wrong with the art here.

I understand and agree with you, but don’t you think it could be improved a little, even keeping the current cartoonish aspect?

I’ve seen montages on top of the current game, with ray tracing activated… it’s incredibly beautiful and it’s an option that can be turned on or off.

the city of orgrimmar itself in the video seems to be (to me) 200% more appealing and creative. I wouldn’t mind having something like that in the current graphics, but well worked out in this way demonstrated in the video.

It’s not that they can’t. The company DOESN’T WANT TO. This is the art style they want for their game. This is the aesthetic they like.

And frankly, this is the art style many players I know like and attribute to WoW. It’s part of the signature uniqueness of the franchise. It’s not meant to look like every other freaking Unreal Engine game out there. And I’m glad it doesn’t.

To each their own… but I really dislike how this video looks.
