What do you like about the Worgen?

So, I love werewolves and vampires. I love the concept of luring someone somewhere they feel safe then ripping them to shreds with claws/fangs. I love the concept of being a human monster, and I wish I someday get to watch a good modern movie about an evil werewolf/vampire that eats people and makes them (and me):poop: their pants.

Now, I also love the WoW Worgen. There are the evil ones, the Sons of Arugal that look badass, and then there are the sane ones, that, for the most part, want to see the Horde burn. There is some great potential here for a particularly hateful Worgen to be heinous and demented toward a Horde town in this game, and that’s what I like about them—that potential.

I would love to meet a character who channels his hatred, as a normal human would, but uses his claws and monstrosity to satisfy it. I want someone who wants the Horde to truly fear him as a monster, I don’t want him to get offended when he gets called a monster, you know? I want him to embrace that dark side.

So, if you don’t really care for or like the Twilight werewolves, why do you like the WoW Worgen? What draws you to them? What draws you to non-WoW werewolves?

I find the Worgen story in the starter zone interesting. From when they had little control, and were being hunted and caged. Where those that accepted the curse, like Alpha Prime and the Wolf Cult, become the monster.

I prefer it when becoming a werewolf is a curse. Good men struggling against it and trying to retain their humanity.

British werewolves, whats not to like?

The male model forced me to race change to human though, its borderline impossible to get a good plate tmog going- i probably developed OCD trying.

Sounds like you want to roll Forsaken.

My Horde main is a Forsaken rogue, actually.

The entire astethic and concept behind the Worgen in general is appealing. It manages to break several tropes while keeping to the heart of the idea at the same time. For example, while the Worgen do still struggle with the curse to some extent, they still retain a significant part of who they were. Rather becoming the monster within, it becomes an extension of ones self.

They’re also on the Alliance, which at first glace, wouldn’t make since when you compare the Alliance and Horde. However, when you dig into the backstory of the Gilneans you realize that, yes it does make sense. These are people with No love for Orcs, and even less for the Undead. Simply becoming monsters does not change how they feel. Instead, they turn their Fury and Hate towards the Horde.

In addition to that, it seems to be fairly unique as far as WoW is concerned that we received a Canine based playable race, rather than a Feline one.

I do like the lore regarding worgen, in fact my favorite concept character is the Worgen DK. Power of both the Nature(worgen form) and death(deathknight powers) combined into the ultimate killing machine.

The sons of argual and the story there is pretty cool as well. I just wish it tied more back to Gineas more.

dogs with tophats.

Elegancy and ferocity combined, nuff said

As much as I like Worgen I wouldn’t complain if they decided to give the curse a little bit more nuance here and there (and make them look a bit more lanky while you’re at it).

But yeah, I’m happy with them, Blizzard took a common trope and gave it some novelty with victorian fashion, and I think it has a lot of potential, especially if they get to do stuff with their country again at some point and explore their shadow/alchemy affinity some more.

I came in here to say this.

I like the juxtaposition of the dignified Victorian/Gothic themes with those of a primal beast. It’s similar to the contrast between the Night Elves’ elegance, and their savagery. Which reminds me, I also like how much of a bro they are to the Night Elves.

It doesn’t have much to do with the story, or race, per se, but I do like the playerbase, as well.

I like them
 they are so fluffy

That’s why I find it irksome when worgen get boiled down to “lol dog jokes”.

“he so silly he like bones”
“dis dog man he scratch his ear with his foot”
“so funny”

Worgen used to be terrors. The way they’re shown in Gilneas is as a legitimate threat not unlike the Scourge to Lordaeron (except more killable). I want them to be the ace-in-the-sleeve of the Alliance where they’re supremely effective but commanders don’t want to deploy them because they’re too unpredictable and dangerous once the battle begins, not just wolf-dudes in uniforms acting more or less like humans while also sniffing constantly.

They’re supposed to be the epitome of a predator but that went out the window when they gave them the magical elven cure-all that makes everything okay again.

Similar occurred with the blood elves when the Sunwell was restored. We were sold these grim survivalist elves who wore a veneer of sophistication, but were not-so-secretly thirsting for mana at all times. Then in the very same expansion, that tension evaporates. Worgen didn’t even make it out of the starting zone for theirs to disappear.

They actually went to help the night elves compared to the rest of the alliance that just stood by while the genocide happened and when they wanted to reclaim their land.

What if Van Helsing at the end of that movie stayed a werewolf but retained his human free will?

That’s basically what Worgen are, monster hunting werewolves with lots of cool gadgets and tech, like Van Helsing combined with the Wolf Man. Not only that but you can’t walk into their homeland without instantly thinking of those cool classic horror movies or the classic Hammer horror films.

I haven’t said anything that hasn’t been said already, so I’ll offer one different reason, I like that they helped revamp Hallow’s End for the Alliance and changed it from being terrorized by the Forsaken to taking revenge on them by egging them back after they had been egging the Alliance for so many years.

This.

And most definitely this.

I also like that their starting zone is so beautifully gloomy.

For me, it’s a mixed bag.

I for one loved the worgen that we saw in zones like Duskwood, and I was always fascinated by the thought of them becoming playable.

When I saw previews of what they looked like during the Cataclysm reveal (the alpha worgen) I saw that these were less ferocious and more ‘tame’ versions which I thought was actually a good idea, as they looked distinct from the worgen we knew of and amicable.

Then the whole fiasco over their models and animations happened and
well, it was just a big mess.

In the end, we got the more feral-looking worgen that came with really wonky-looking animations and
yeah. Combine that with the fact that they really got screwed over in the story and weren’t relevant for 3 straight expansions
 I dunno.

They’re extremely forgettable to me now because despite Genn getting plenty of prominence since Legion, the worgen themselves are underutilized and feel as if they don’t have their own identity. Which is sad because they are one of the most unique ‘races’ in the story- far more interesting than say
 humans, elves and orcs.
