Just curious what everyone does with their old gear once they’ve upgraded with new gear. I sometimes trash it or disenchant (on my mages) for the mats. But I have a large collection of old gear I have yet to get rid of. Not sure why exactly. Hoarding I guess
Other than the Heart of Azeroth, is anything really worth keeping after an upgrade?
i mean i keep legendaries and some trinkets and stuff that i think will be good in TW eventually but besides that, its all going ot a random store or being DEed.
Honestly- I never thought of using void storage. I’ve been keeping it all in my bank bags and they’re getting full!
But honest question… once you’ve upgraded gear, why gear back down for timewalking? Why not just keep wearing the more powerful gear? (Confession: I haven’t done any timewalking so I’m unfamiliar with how it all works.)
If it’s season gear, like normal mythic plus stuff it gets DE’d. Obviously we have to keep leggos and system items. I keep all trinkets. Everything else DE’d/sold. Once they added the appearance thing there’s really no need to keep heaps of gear anymore.
Void storage is only used for gear so it’s a natural place for your loved but old gear. However, fair warning: it removes enchants and gems.
Timewalking has odd scaling and sometimes old gear is better. Sometimes, the gear has a legendary power that remains relevant during timewalking and so it is more powerful than a non-legendary item, even though they are both scaled to the same item level. Heart of Azeroth will have more raw stats than other pieces of the same item level, and the Azerite power bonuses should be active. Timewalking is kind of special because people are rewarded for playing in the past; bis gear and legendaries from the past are still useful (except legiondaries, RIP legiondaries).
If the gear has meaning to me it gets tossed into void storage or the bank. The more meaning it has, the more likely it will be kept in the bank instead of the void.
So, for me in SL, Tier gear will get a nice spot in the bank or void… but, nothing else really had any value to me.
For example, if you are farming Timewalking dungeons for the badges or you like blasting through them. With an optimized set and some of the extremely powerful old trinkets/enchants, you might do 4x the damage.
For the fun of it. I know in the BC time walking I was pulling everything into the bosses all week long. It gives me a feeling that spamming M+ doesn’t really give me anymore.
WE don’t have unlimited storage or bag space, so you have to disenchant and trash old RNG loot. It’s sad how unemotional we are with gear. The game doesn’t make the rewards feel personal at all, just a borrowed power stat chore if you ask me. Like I remember folx being super proud of their loot that changed the game’s environment or affected the world even if temporary like for the Blue Dragons flying above Stormwind, when that happens you know someone got it. I don’t know it’s unfortunate how the Random drops for how much time is invested isn’t valued or appreciated long term. the point of Fantasy narratives is that your gear/loot can be attuned to you in Dungeons and Dragons and you grow with your weapon for example. I guess that’s why I enjoyed Legion so much. It felt so custom to the character/player and made me more see the rewards as being more engaging and appreciated. I still Tmog my Legion weapons because they were created for longevity but I do wish our loot was made for long-term progression instead of chasing the latest patch or expansion. Since this game literally is CUMULATIVE.
disenchant/sell most of it. I keep a few things, like the heart, and Legion Weapons, and original heirlooms, although I can probably get rid of those now.
If their enchanted you may want to send them to an alt bank. Enchanting things like legs are a pain as you need a character in the right leveling bracket and they cost a ton.
