I have not been having fun on my alts trying to gear them, im a pvp person and having to pve to pvp is very exhausting I only have one character that is decently geared. I can never get into a Heroic raid,and thats partly bc I miss out of guild runs, but also pugs just cant clear past vexiona. Sometimes, I want to try to look for more ways to enjoy wow, and I want to know what some of yall do for fun that is not progressing your gear or pet battles.
Some of us have been leveling alts in bgs and it is pretty fun with a group, get that heritage armor, or another alt for Shadowlands. We have been doing a lot of pvp tournaments, 2s and 3s, transmog contests, events that we normally don’t have time for during all the new content. Some enjoy gold, t-mog, mount farming. We are also starting an online D&D camp for people interested. Old achievements that you never got, enjoying some old content you missed out on. Hope you find something that you enjoy. If nothing else there is always WPvP 
Doing silly stuff like double ret 2s, gear funneling/helping friends with their weekly m+ or cap when they don’t have the ilvl for it. Right now I’m at the point of heroic progression with the group I run that I just mostly go to try and get as high of a parse that I can.
There’s also using skirmishes to help level up friends, especially in the 111-119 bracket. Scaling is wonky and the carry gets usually 12-20% each win which usually take less than 20 seconds.
There’s also just hopping onto classic whenever someone is needing a battle buddy for wpvp.

What exactly are you trying to do PVP wise? Because… I dont touch raids/dungeons.
If you’re trying to push high rating, ilvl is a thing.
If you’re trying to be an unkillable pvp bro in WPVP, yeh it matters.
But if ya just wanna run around and have fun, your ilvl is fine tbh. You should be able to kill most of the people running around in war mode. (even people with higher gear if they dont know their class…)
I find reasons to hate others so I can reasonably justify and slake my psychotic impulses.
