Title. Midnight will be unavailable to players not running Windows 10.
Thoughts and feelings?
Edit: Sorry for any confusion folks. This was the exact message that popped up:
Important Notice: The upcoming release of World of Warcraft: Midnight will require Windows 10 or later to run. Your current version of Windows will not be supported and will be incompatible with the new expansion.
It only appeared once and I haven’t seen it again since.
I can’t find any official blue posts as of right now, other than linking threads that other players have already made, where a GM posted in their thread.

Wait, you mean the OS that was released like 10 years ago? Look I know that XP was awesome and all but come on

Personally I am shocked that a Microsoft company isn’t supporting Windows 7 even though Microsoft stopped supporting Windows 7 a decade ago.
I am equally shocked that a Microsoft company isn’t natively supporting their one real competitor in the desktop space.

Idk but I’m sure there are people not running Windows 10 out there lol

Windows 7 has been out of support for over 5 years. Even the businesses that paid for extended support saw that end over 2 years ago. Windows 7 (and 8/8.1) are dead. Even 10 is on life-support at this point really.
Though I am curious if it will actually not run on older operating systems, or if they simply changed the requirements. Sort of like how the game still works on pretty much all DirectX 11 and even DirectX 10 cards in most cases, even those far below the stated requirements.

I have no opinion, but lately I wonder when my pc updates if they aren’t throwing a lil’ patch sumthin sumthin in the mix. Probably not, but same company after all.

As of August 2025 (according to StatCounter) 96.24% of Windows users are on 10 or 11.
7 is 2.13% and I guarantee you 99% of that is legacy office computers.
It’s a non issue. Just another reminder that Windows 7 is a fond memory from long past.

Hold up…
Please tell me you didn’t interpret that to mean it won’t run on Win 11?
If so… recommended is the lowest OS you can be on. Not the only OS you can be on.
If not… then I’m calling shenanigans on this entire topic.

Oh, wow! Well, then I suppose there probably wouldn’t be too many players excluded?

Did they say anything about Vista?

Oh naw, I’m just going based off the message that popped up before I logged in this morning. Something about Midnight will require Windows 10 to play. Haven’t seen the message pop up again though but I’ve been wondering about it all day.

Vistas already too old and incompatible.

If it required 11 I would spend all my life’s savings buying forks and torches to munition the waves of angry people who would be crusading towards Blizzard’s HQ.

To be honest I’m kind of surprised it’s not already a requirement for the game.
