What do the new monk talent trees need to be considered "good"?

Here’s a couple of things, in my opinion:

  • General talent tree needs lots of utility talents (the monk class has a lot to choose from)
  • Mistweaver needs significant options to pursue a fistweaving play-style.

I don’t really play the other two specs, so I don’t really have an opinion on those.

To be considered passable?

Viability for different builds
No RNG crap
Fun playstyles

This is big. WW should not be a beyblade spec based off the occasional proc

THIS is super big. I know nothing of BM, but MW right now is so 1 dimension as a spec and it’s not a fun dimension. WW is kind of the same because outside of your goes once a minute (or RNG procs) you don’t do much (PvP wise anyways).

To answer original post, I think general tree needs a LOT of utility. RoP should be there, dampen/diffuse, disarm, maybe even short port, and maybe, just MAYBE, a defensive cd that’s not a 3 min cd and only 15% and not usable in stun.

Viable, fun dps options for both ‘fistweavers’ and 'mistweavers, because right now it seems that the spec is divided into those two groups. And give us our interrupt back.

If you’re referring to PvE, maybe. In PvP fistweaving is such a dead dream. Ancient Teachings is locked behind essence font (free lockout in PvP+costs 7% of our mana which isn’t sustainable in arenas) which basically means it’s worthless. To top that off, with no meaningful damage buffs (and needing to prioritize vers/mast over haste) even when you have Ancient Teachings up you run out of meaningful healing within a global while all the classes around you are still doing 12k dps.

Yes, I haven’t really touched pvp since BFA.

I have to say …

  • ring of peace in general near the top
  • Some kind of weapon based attacks to choose from (ie jab, blackout strike)
  • fun and variant play styles.
  • Covenant abilities rebranded or redesigned because I am Done with weird non monk powers being essential in my rotation.
  • Serenity that’s worth taking
  • Rsk for brewmaster or some kind of single target abilities that make this spec not worthless in pvp.

For mistweaver at least there is no real answer since different players want vastly different things from it. Someone is gonna immediately label it as bad no matter what the tree looks like.

I disagree. The point of these talent trees (as we’ve seen so far) is for there to be that variety. i.e There SHOULD be a part of the tree appealing to Fistweaving players, and Mistweaving, and even maybe a hybrid or a third/new branch for playstyle.

For everyone on the Monk class board to say they are awful.

Thats when you’ll know they are good.

Ring of Peace needs to be available to all specs without gating other utility. If we have to choose between ring and anything else we’re just going to keep choosing ring.

Mistweaver needs more abilities for damage, damage CDs (like Xuen for MW), and raid wall CDs to be on par with other healers. They also need spear hand strike since all of the other healers appear to be getting interrupts.

Brewmaster just needs Stormstouts Last Keg and then be left alone.

Windwalker could use a Whirling Dragon Punch that doesn’t root you in place.

I’d love to see Faeline Stomp turned into something worth taking because it’s unique and looks awesome.

Still doesn’t really change that someone is gonna be angry. Ranged Mistweavers will be angry if Soothing is still bad to cast outside of tunneling, Melee Mistweavers will be angry if the playstyle is nerfed, “Fistweavers” will be angry if they can’t go 100% damage to heal, the chi crowd will be angry.
We have a ton of cliques in this spec.

On faeline stomp, it’d be cool if they redid the visuals a bit to make it more “chi” based and then make it not lock you in a place as well.

?

Brewmaster is a utility spec in PVP, it has lacked that utility since BFA because I gave everyone the build that made blizz realize how broken brew was in Legion.

It does not need single target damage, if anything its damage is actually fine and not incredible for a tank.

I would say the minimum bar for me would look something like this.

  1. Retain current class features (Minus covenant abilities)
  2. Allow for the taking of previously exclusive talents that synergize together
  3. Bring back Strike of the Windlord
  4. 2 Charges of Keg Smash talent

That’s my bottom of the barrel requirement for the talent trees. Based on other classes, i would be beyond shocked if these changes don’t happen.

Beyond this, hope for something great, brace for reality. That’s where I’m at.
