We all know classic is classic. good ole 2004 mmorpg.
With this being said, I see a lot of people talking about no changes and I also see people asking for some changes.
Look at what OSRS did, they brought the core game back, patches and all. Then proceeded to add new content via polls.
When you think of your love for vanilla, do you solely think of the game as is back in 2004? glitches, bugs, imbalance, etc? (nostalgia also, I think we all have a little bit of that)
or do you love the actual idealism, systems and way vanilla was played. Meaning you wouldnât be opposed to new content (much like Jagex did with OSRS) after the full release of all the patch cycles of classic, as long as it stayed in the lines of classic and didnât stray into the crapshoot we know as retail.
Personally, I am for the second option. I love classic, I love the systems, ideas and all that, and I am not opposed to new content cycles after the old patches are done with.
Also remember this is an opinion. I am curious to see who shares similar thoughts.
I like the world design, class design, and combat mechanics. I donât care about the exact preservation of art assets and graphics.
I would like to see classic grow to be used as a development platform. Classic servers, and then expanded classic on new servers, that brings in the additional locations from the warcraft games, like Northrend.
I am the second as well, but I donât trust modern ActiBlizz to be able to remain true to the vision that Vanilla WoW had. And thatâs why Iâm #nochanges
I do share the opinion that instead of just letting the servers die, or implementing TBC that when it comes time to cross that bridge IE when people are just casually walking through Naxx and subs start dipping that I will be on the forums voting for small content batches using the character models and making alterations and modding new content for more level 60 progression and such
It would also be nice if quests brought level 60s back around to lower level contested zones again. Because when a server starts to lose population because people get bored you tend to see the lower level zones looking like ghost towns.
If max level players had reasons (other than gathering) to revisit old zones for quests, grinding mobs in hidden locations in the mountains and such the the world will become alive again.
More world bosses would be awesome too⌠having them in contested territories where the Allies and Horde could fight over then again would be ideal.
Personally for me itâs all about the lack of accessibility and molly coddling of the current game.
I want the game raw with itâs imperfections, accepting them and embracing them instead of saying âWe didnât design this content with your type of player in mind, here have the same rewards for little effort as we donât want you to miss outâ.
Appropriate rewards for content, no RNG on the actual loot itself (only the drops), and no laundry list of caches and dailies that grant significantly stronger gear than the content so that you feel obligated to complete everything just so you donât fall behind.
In all honesty, I would still be fine with the current game minus those systems. I feel itâs the âeveryone should be entitled to everything, regardless of effortâ mindset that I donât like.
Along with âThatâs a shame you didnât get a reward this time, just do 3 more and you will be guaranteed an even better reward at the end of the weekâ.
Not gonna lie, a lot of low level players really wouldnât like to see max level players storming through their zones.
âHaha a level 20 paladin!â⌠Dead.
I think if people role on a pvp server⌠especially as LATE in to classic as we are referring (when naxx is being strolled through) then they have accepted the possibility by now that a high level might gank them.
Besides not all high levels given the opportunity will just smear lowbies⌠I know unless I was out to gank specifically I would just wave at allies or pass them by.
Even helped a few that tagged too many mobs to finish the fight
I would say the sense of community, Classes feel like classes and have value in the realm communities. You see the same people, you grow with your community. The reason to play classic is not for the design its for the sense of a mmo where you you need to talk to the local blacksmith to get a piece of armor, you need to meet a alchemist for a elixir, you want to bring a shaman for the windfury.
With modern wow, everything can be soloed apart from dungeons and raids you you level by spamming dungeon finder and you can go a hundred levels without saying a word to anybody. all you do is mindlessly zerg through each dungeon to get it over with. It sucks because it just feels so artificial, it feels like a single player game you dont need to talk, you dont need help, you dont need other players whatsoever. that sucks.
All the classes have everything, (Mobility spell, self heal, cc breaker, dmg reducution) everything feels the same and it sucks, it doesnt feel like choices matter.
