Another big warlock thread
I’m about to sleep but I’m going to give you some tips that I recall as big turning points for me over the years.
-
It’s incredibly common for new casters to get in the trap of always wanting to kite. We as ranged players have this fallacy that we can only play the game when melee aren’t touching us and if they are, we must create distance as a top priority. This is 100% false. Healers actually do this a lot too but there’s only 2 reasons to ever move. One, to kite damage. More on that below. Two, to reposition. If you’re going to move, make it purposeful. Relocate them to behind a pillar. Drag them the complete opposite direction of their healer. Make them go to some place unfavorable. Otherwise, just do damage.
-
Avoiding damage. You don’t need to avoid all damage. More importantly, you can’t. This concept needs to be accepted. Melee are going to wail on you; what’s important is using your cds to kite the right damage. By this I mean cds mainly. For arms, look to avoid mainly warbringer/CSmash and avatar. Things like that. (I think I got the names right). Save things like bash and clone DR for these situations. Don’t waste them just trying to run for no reason.
-
Saving your cds for the right moments. Like I said above, try and use your buttons in response to their buttons. For instance, if they charge you first global, maybe typhoon. If they charge again or leap or something, use wild charge. If they’re given freedom or otherwise stick to you, use dash or stamp roar. Always press your buttons in response to theirs. If you waste them all frantically, you’ll have no way to effectively create distance when you want. If they stormbolt you and press literally every cd, especially if your healer is cc’d, consider using barkskin here. Maybe trinket and bash them. If they trinket the bash, clone them. If they don’t trinket bash, clone them anyway. If they trinket that clone, use the aforementioned tools to run away. But remember that you don’t have to run constantly. Just avoid the big set ups. You have a healer for a reason.
-
Doing damage. Boomy is a LOT of instants. Dotting them can be done with them training you. Use warrior of elune or owlkin procs to enter eclipse. Use the spenders. You don’t need to cast too often all the time and even if you do, stand your ground and just pump. I can’t tell you how many games I’ve won where I literally stand still for like 30s at a time.
-
Don’t blame SS or your “crap partners” or something. Saying things like
Won’t help. Boomy can help themselves a great deal. Healers will heal you. That’s their job. Dps won’t always peel but the decent ones will try. If you don’t have decent teammates then you’re likely not high. If you’re not high, the other team is bad too. You can very easily bully a low lobby with good play. Just focus on you.
- Talent selection. I assume you’re playing the starfall build. If so, don’t take starburst into casters. You’ll see no value. If you take it vs melee cleaves, make sure to actually kite melee into the high density areas. Otherwise owlkin adept is a solid choice always. Thorns won’t see value against teams that can purge if they actually press it. Moonkin aura is good but it’s not mandatory if you’d like thorns and starburst. High winds is a talent better suited for a ST build or someone capable of utilizing it fully. If you’re not getting a tons of clones off, don’t bother. Change talents depending on the situation.
How come every boomy i see hops around in a circle instant cast only besides like one clone doing 2 mill more damage than everyone else. Perhaps it is a talent selection diff
This is the “more precise advice” I hinted at in my comment
not really sure how to (if u can) tag - but I’m taking notes
If u can survive melee with the starfall build, they’ll def melt… go big boom ![]()
edit: I’m def seeing more success than last week with the starsurge build already
Anyone woh uses the “just CC them” arguement is 50% correct. Generally you actually need to rely on your partners to help out a bit. Typhoon Charge, wild charge second, and stamp roar for distance on leaps. From there you can generally create enough space to rotate all that from there on out, but it’s still a giant pain to create distance.
Also just play single target. You can force them off in an incarn go, if not just outright kill.
The same reason boomy always does more damage than most people. It’s hitting the entire area or entire bg. I promise you at like 2100+ mmr the damage difference isn’t nearly what people lower experience. Especially when healers put dispel on their bars.
Or when people start realizing how glass cannon boomy is rn lol
just be a boomy like what
What’s the starfall build. Im using:
BYGAjgO5l4zUDkYE8W5/Dtff2BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAFASSkEkEgkQSOQaQJRSiElkQiQolUSSSEFAKUAA
This has thorns, owlkin and moonkin aura.
Much thanks to Flapz as well! Great post (and yes I am low rated, but I only do shuffle).
I am not high rated either, and only do shuffle now as well
(though planning, as things go, to return to 3’s and RBGs later this season)
I’ll check your build when I log in soon,
see how it compares to the one I’ve been using (though, I’m planning to use the starsurge build and see how it goes)
bruh boomkin destory everything atm just sit in the back cast that aoe thing in the zerg.
oh this is arena forum? well who cares still topped dmg in my games
tldr skill issue
Disarm, Mass Entanglement, Root, Typhoon, Cyclone, Thorns, Wild Charge, Dash, Mighty Bash.
Or you can just backpedal, get precog, spam Moonfire, insta cast Starfire, and spam Starfall. That will usually net you top damage.
die… thats what you do against warriors
ok, it was worse last patch… if you cycle all your tools correctly, you can slow their roll a fair amount, but it will ultimately take a little peeling from teammates now and then to keep you going…
I find that the General Druid tree MAJORLY impacts survivability in PvP.
The thing I’ve found that helped me most moving into season 2 with all its bursty craziness, is no unnecessary class / spec / pvp talents Pick wisely, use every ability when it needs to be used and predict, setup, conserve cds and do positive trades. Plan the win and carry it. In solo especially, no coms you have to carry yourself every round
Of course easier said than done, I am working on this but practice is the way
and I am also no pro by any means, but looking to pay more attention and improve this season
