What did you LIKE about Shadowlands?

In general, as much as I see, people have a low opinion of Shadowlands for multiple reasons. I am one of them, it is definitely my least favorite expansion. However, even amongst all the things I dislike, there are some things about Shadowlands I loved.

I’m not looking to start any hate here, so if your favorite thing is ‘it’s over soon’, please don’t reply. But I am wondering - what, if anything, did you LIKE about this expansion?

tl;dr: I liked Revendreth, the Night Fae race, the ease of earning gold, and renown over rep. Read on if you want the details haha.

For me, the standout was Revendreth. I loved everything about the zone, from its Covenant transmog, campaign, and abilities, to its music, to its storyline, to the NPCs we see there to the raids and dungeons we did there. “Eeeh…my master did say to serve EVERYONE…” has become an in-joke in my house, and I actually have a non-Warcraft fanfiction written inspired by the song ‘Pride and Penance’. I absolutely loved Revendreth and may find a way for future alts to quest through there (even if I have to come up with an in-character lore reason for them to do so).

I also loved the Night Fae - by which I mean the race itself. These little fairies cracked me UP all through Ardenweald. They come off as playful children but have a mischievous streak a mile wide and some adult understanding of the world to make them just plain dangerous when they want. “It’s Raining Sparkles” is a favorite WQ, and any character I have that joins their Covenant doesn’t skip, because that whole play reenacting your life over various expansions is just hysterical (have you watched the audience comments as you play? OMG!  )

I’m a little slow on the uptake for quests but it still seemed to me that it was WAY easier to earn gold in Shadowlands than previous expansions. I mean, in one day, I could earn 6,000-7,000g per alt. I recall BFA and Legion having those Emissary quests that would earn you 2,000g if you did one of them…but that was one. This is three times that in a day. And for a while, I was farming Cata raids on 25H because I could get 6,000g per character if I ran 5 raids (Blackwing Descent, Bastion of Twilight, Throne of the Four Winds, Dragon Soul, and Firelands). But in Shadowlands, suddenly on day one I had like 12,000g, which was the most I had ever earned on any character (and not immediately spent…looking at you, Vial of the Sands). I could be wrong on this, but I seriously hope they keep the ability to earn gold this fast and easy in Dragonflight.

The last thing I can think of that I liked from Shadowlands (I won’t quite say loved but I did like it) was Renown over reputation. Rep grinds have killed me (as have they everyone) in the past, and renown felt like an easier, faster, and more rewarding way to earn (maybe because we got something every level?). Now I like farming rep (to some degree) because it does feel very satisfying in the end and it’s something that character has done that others haven’t (I’m back and forth on account-wide rep. It would make things so easy but it would damage the uniqueness of each character, which is something I think is important).

Slight edit I realize, of course, there’s still reputation in Shadowlands. But for some reason it felt easier to earn? Or maybe because I was doing so much for the Callings for the gold I didn’t notice. Anyway…I do still like the Renown system.

If you read all this, thanks. I appreciate it. What do you like about Shadowlands?

The almost free mounts from just leveling Renown.

I liked that Demonology stayed fun.

Revendreth and Ardenwald were fun cool looking zones.

I like the runebound coffers strewn about.

I liked the callings, but not so much the world quests. Once I learned which ones I liked more it was more fun.

I liked the Tree mount.

I liked Divine Toll for Prot Paladin :stuck_out_tongue:

The aesthetics of the zones, and the detail to armor and weapons. The story and background to the zones like Venthyr and Maldraxxis as much as I hated all the undead gore and such…lol

I liked the individual zone quest lines, but not the main arc.

Revendreth was my favourite, including all the side stories. I do wish we got a lot more about the Naaru invasion they mention a lot.

I liked the renown system more than I like rep. They just needed the catchup system to appear earlier, and make renown more accessible early on rather than act like a time gate.

Conduits were neat (after the changes). I like anything that kind of changes how we set up our skills for different encounters. I also like things that change how abilities work. I’d like it if they brought conduits back as glyphs that are more than mere cosmetics, and have a ton more of them.

Creation Catalyst, Uncapped Valor, Night Fae, and ZM.

I honestly found all the zones(Except Bastion) fun. Zone was nice, but I hated the story campaign.

It got us out of BfA.
Then 2 years later it’s nearly over.

I kid, season 1 was alright. Everything after that was just kind of meh.
First few weeks of ZM was neat after changing to playing open world more than dungeons.
I still agree with a phrase Preach said early on. They have been designing the game to be best played later. After all the gates and hurdles have been lifted and you can just play the game.

Everything! I played so many alts this expansion, it is fun to be a fox with wings

The game as it is now. Season 4 and fated are good. I like the clear upgrading but having a wide net to pick from to optimize stats.

Also all the QoL thats in now is what makes the game enjoyable. Launch of expansions is caked over with honeymoon. I don’t want things to be free or easy but my natural play schedule will already limit my progression. Don’t need extra hoops while playing. Think of the recharging station back on mechagon.

  • The element if it’s up
  • pay the startup fee
  • pay the fee if late to starting it up
  • channeling the cell
  • defending the tower from mobs that will disrupt your cast and damage the tower
  • the limited time it’s up

It’s too much bro, stop.

Lately blizz games in their final stretch seem to abandon that sort of annoying loops and just let you play. And well that’s when I enjoy playing.

Also having a reason to delve into alt covenant stuff and other areas with veilstrider.

I liked the architecture of Revendreth.

Revendreth, hands down. Nathria’s a close second, but I feel some of the corridors are a little drab. Easily my favorite room in that entire instance is the ballroom.

While I have mixed feelings on the story (namely the Jailer being a really blah villain), I did like the story line from one zone to the next, though I must admit, I much prefer the presentation of of Legion and BfA when it comes to story.

Castle Nathria is a phenomenal raid with the only main downside being Denathrius gets harder the better you’re geared since you might nuke him too quickly in Phase 1 for everyone to clear their stacks so you have to hold DPS. Kind of a design oversight there.

The zone specific stories while questing were all fun and engaging. It also introduced some memorable and fun characters - Marileth and Theotar, for example - and the zones themselves are all very interesting. Only drawback is I dislike how they’re all isolated.

This series of Night Fae masks will probably be baked into every mog my Tauren wears for years to come. I love these things, I love every color of them.

I actually like the Ember Court. It’s a nice break from the usual grind and I never found them to be too difficult or dull. I also enjoyed the Abom factory and unlocking all of the constructs. They’re my two favorite Covenant specialization activities.

Zereth Mortias is better than what we got in 8.3 and I also enjoy it more than 7.3 as well (Argus has that same issue of isolating the zones that I genuinely hate). I don’t mind it too much, and even now there’s always a ZM rare hunting group up in the group finder, nearly always full. It’s nice seeing so many players together flying around the zone, not to mention how many will pick up those who are returning and don’t have flying. It’s all around a positive experience. I also liked the process of unlocking the languages, and the Jiro are so darn cute.

Reminds me of the first time my old guild broke XT-002’s heart before knowing it triggered a hard mode.

LOL. That must have been a fun surprise.

I was the only one in my raid who read what the achievement on Zek’voz in Uldir was and 100% activated my puzzle box on our very first pull we ever did.

Inb4 some wise a-- says something to the extent of Shadowlands coming to an end!

In all seriousness, I thought Raids and M+ were decent. Tuning may have been an issue but the encounter teams always do a great job.

I like the kyrian stewards and the night fae stuff.

Castle Nathria was also cool.

Oh and I liked Zerith Mortis pretty well, at least during the first couple of weeks. The art design of it was pretty.
