What did you do to get gold for 40 mount?

I’m currently level 39 and 50G away from mount. I’ve never bought anything from the AH and I’ve made my own gear from Tailoring. I’ve vendored almost everything I’ve looted and I’ve put quests on hold. I want to reach 100g before 40.

I’m a human Mage and struggling to find mobs that drop decent loot.

Any tips?

gonna be honest here, i didnt get my mount in original vanilla until 48. quests as you get higher give you more money and rewards that sell for more, so putting leveling on hold is not going to help you. also you could advertise selling ports to other cities and make money that way, there are always people trying to get from one continent to the other faster.

Sell wands on the AH seems to work well, when my first character in Vanilla was about 39 ish I grinded elementals in the Badland for 3 days vendoring rocks to get enough gold.

Sell all good greens on the AH- vendoring items ‘of the Monkey/Eagle/Bear’ etc. will cost you dozens of gold on the way to 40. Quest. Quest quest quest. Once you get in your 30s, quest rewards often start to give 60s+ and sometimes an additional green where if you choose the mail/plate/2h/shield etc. nets you an easy 1.5g+ per quest.

Do not avoid grey items due to bag space. You should have decent ones as a tailor, and should be picking up all grey items and vendoring.

Lastly, SKILLS. Do NOT train all of your skills- this is the big one. Only train your essential skills for leveling, otherwise you spend dozens and dozens of gold on skills that really can wait until later. If you aren’t using it in your main rotation, primary buffs/utility etc., it shouldn’t be trained.

If you do all of those things, you should be close by 40. From 35-40 I was making on average 10g+/level.

also become friends with every warlock you know, they are all rich since they didnt have to pay for their level 40 mount and you can borrow money from them to get yours if you get closer.

Sm library is good has lots of chests. Creature mobs drop greys to vendor. I got mine 10% into 41.

I rolled a paladin.

But as a serious answer, if you want your mount AT 40, you should be saving all the while. Don’t train anything but the necessary spells, don’t spend gold on crafting profession training, use the auction house to sell everything that isn’t gray for maximum profit. Pick up skinning and vendor/AH all the leather.

Alternatively, as you go along, quest rewards and trash drops become more valuable, and the gold will be easier and easier to get. You’ll get it eventually, but if you’re impatient just save and sell like crazy, never buy.

Stop questing @ level 38 and go to Swamp of Sorrows. Once you’re there grind the crocs, jaguars, and spiders until you’re level 40.

Vendor/AH all of the grey items, leathers, and claws. You’ll get 5-10g every time you empty your bags.

I had exactly 90g when I hit 40 doing this.

I would second the mention of stopping questing and maybe completely stopping exp to find a spot and grind

^ This always works. 10/10 would recommend.

I was at Swamp of Sorrows earlier grinding spiders/jaguars but they barely dropped anything. It was like 1 in every 5 mobs dropped a single grey item…

Ive always had it at 40, make most of my money from fishing. Not gonna provide the specifics because i dont want to compete with all you fools!

Farmed ore.

Got mine for free

Thank you for all of the replies too! Some very handy tips!

i got mine at like 44, i AH everything, was ahead of the price crashes, avoided training most skills, vendored all weapons, etc.

its tough out there

Ouch I don’t remember it being that bad… Most likely just bad RNG. Seems like I would go 2 or 3 mobs every now and then with nothing but that was few and far between over the coarse of two whole levels.

Also it might not seem as profitable without skinning, which I always pick up leveling 1-60.

Combination of different things.

Pure grinding, playing the AH and frugality is usually the way to go as most have said.

SM GY/Lib farming as a Rogue is decentish income, just pickpocket every mob, theres are a decent amount of chests and the trash you get should net a decent amount of both XP and gold.

Made roughly about 6G after repairs from four runs of GY and Lib, in about two hours.

Grouping is fairly easy for it too, should be able to find a group within minutes.

You could always just purely play the auction house, although it generally requires patience, time and a decent level of capital to make a good profit consistently.
