She has had that in spades for years. Its just annoying now.
Night Warrior displaying how powerful it is before Sylvanas manages to run away does not diminish any returns as her being a final boss of a raid.
Not at all. It just makes everything about the rest of the story meaningless.
I could have easily been motivated by “you got away from Tyrande but you won’t get away from me!”.
So no I don’t see the I win always Sylvanas as a compelling thing that gets me hyped for the next raid. Not at all.
I guess they don’t want to undermine how Sylvanas has been for years to make Tyrande’s one time power up look better than it already does then.
Pardon me for using wrestling terms, but you say it wouldn’t detract from Sylvanas if she sold for a Tyrande, but apparently Blizz disagrees. They want their top heel to look untouchable going into the title match.
That’s okay, maybe that sort of thing doesn’t work for you. Maybe it will work for someone else. It’s just how Blizz has decided to book the match, to close out the metaphor.
What does he want anyway? The Defias Brotherhood was a more compelling villain than anything Shadowlands offered so far. They had clear motivations for what they were doing, they had reasons for what they were doing. Like yeah sure the Jailer wants to blow up the universe and is a big bad threat…but if you have such a villain, he needs to be at least somewhat charismatic and fun. Zovaal is as charismatic and fun as a rock.
At that point and time, the Sigils of the other Eternals.
What does he want overall changes depending on who you ask. Unfortunately Blizz seems to have taken the wrong lesson from people telling them the Old Gods should be more mysterious and deceptive and less openly evil and tried to apply it to a literal god of death.
Perhaps but as I explained this is what frustrated me with this cinematic. I checked some other places like youtube, forums and reddit and what I am saying is not that fringe either. People are getting tired of the smug edge queen that can never lose no matter what.
Oh well, it is what it is but at least the Sylvanas fanboys are happy their queen got another win before the raid.
Well they’ve been building this particular storyline for years, it’s not surprising if some fans are tired of it. Take some comfort in that the conclusion is rapidly approaching.
(I don’t really see this as a win for Sylvanas or a loss for Tyrande though.)
Showed two popular characters having a grand stouche. They both get good offensive and defensive moments. Reasonable fans of both heroes can find something positive to take out of the fight, if they choose to.
Another sigil has fallen. The fight itself was a ruse, ie only intended as a sideshow.
Establish the ascendancy of Death as a power.
I don’t believe the loss of Elunes power in the end was meant signify the voluntary withdrawal by Elune, but its bannishment by Zovaal. Sylvanas experiences a moment of doubt, but then is comforted by the fact that Elunes power fails. Her speech at the end I’m thinking is meant to reflect the sense of abandonment (by Elune) the Nightelves experienced at Teldrasil.
Short story Elunes power is being thwarted by the Jailor. Which kind of opens up another question to me. Where is Elune? I she under lock and key?
I’d call it a win for Zovaal. At this point I think it should be acknowledged that Zovaal getting his way is probably not actually a good thing for Sylvanas.
As for why I don’t see it as a loss for Tyrande, it’s because Tyrande did not fail - the power of the Night Warrior did. This is Elune acting screwy when it comes to Sylvanas and her actions again, whatever that means for the larger story.
Judging by the recent discount in the cash shop, story they want to tell seems rather clear. Will the manage to do it though - now that’s something that will take time to figure.
I think the Wrathgate comparison brought up earlier in the thread is a very apt one. Arthas retreated from that clearly harmed, he was coughing and gasping as he said “This isn’t over”, but no one called him a wimp or lame for reacting like that. It was cool how the big bad actually managed to get one-upped. It’s a big part of why that cinematic is so memorable.
Sylvanas on the other hand is never on the defensive. Would it really have hurt to have Tyrande drive her away similar to Wrathgate rather than Sylvanas once again be smug and leave on her own terms? Sylvanas still gets away so the overall story wouldn’t change any, but the Night Warrior wouldn’t have come off looking totally useless.
It’s like how back in Darkshore people were suggesting Nathanos gets killed and then the val’kyr sacrifices herself to bring him back. The outcome would be the same - Val’kyr dead, Nathanos gets away - but the night elves would have had a better showing.
I think the cinematic is actually pretty harmless, it’s far from the worst thing ever and I’m not going to pretend it is. But Sylvanas never having anything go wrong or make her stumble is really annoying.
Sylvanas and Nathanos are somebody’s favorite and god have mercy on any other employee who would show them in anything less than amazing at everything will be out the door before they can say “Dark Lady”
i don´t think so, because elunes power simply…annihilated the chains of Dominiation, easy.
This showed at least a power bigger then the soul juice the jailor and sylvanas get and showed us player…Elune is still a big threat for the jailors goals…because if elunes show up, the jailor have still a big problem and even now, he could not beat her. (for the moment, it could be changed in the future if he archieved his goal in the sepulcer of the first ones)
So as someone who played PTR before going into launch, I expected the cinematic to have no impact because of the knowledge that the sigil of Ardenweald would be stolen regardless. However, most people at least were speculating Tyrande would INJURE Sylvannas.
Sylvannas is unphased this entire fight lmao. Tyrande meanwhile is attacking in the dumbest, most over the top anime ways when ‘she will die if she takes too long’ and normal clean strikes, rather than gimmicky naruto moves would do… or her magic, like when she dropped a moon on a Val’kyr lol.
Who ofc as we see in the raid journal, that Val’kyr dying also didn’t matter… so even 8.1 was meaningless lol.
Cant see why it would. It’s not related to her. Tyrande’s power isn’t derived from nature, and Ardenweald’s power is not ever shown to be connected to Druidic magic in the way the Emerald Dream and World Trees are. It’s an anima energy thing, not a nature or lunar energy thing.
Ah, I didn’t understand that there is a disconnect behind the power. Haven’t gone through all the Night Fae material so I rather presumed the Night Warrior was connected to that realm.
Elune is not a god of any singular dimension. Her powers has always transcended multiple as we’ve seen it work in pretty much every reality a moon priestess goes too, and it’s been shown to work as Shadow, Holy, Arcane, and Death prior to SL’s conception.
